'ERGENCY DooR Senior class officers: Pres. Mitchell Reaves, V.Pres. Tim Hogan, Sec. Linda Craw- ford, Co-Treasurers Diane Hall and Dalphine McClelland. Before the Class of '72 bids farewell to Altavista High School, we pause and take a final look atlour high schoolidays... 2. Our eighth grade year was filled with new experiences: jammed lockers, gym suits, and our first Homecoming float. A masterpiece it was, with a variety of colored crepe paper and tissues. Of course it had to rain! Nevertheless we left our mark--soggy crepe paper all down Bedford Avenue! At Christmas time, we traveled to the planetarium at Chapel Hill, N.C. Everyone en- joyed themselves on, and off, the bus! Most of us spent our Freshman year struggling with foreign languages and Mr. Hawley's geo- metry. By now we had settled down into the routine. The highlight of our Sophomore year was our trip to Washington, D.C., where we toured the Capitol and Smithsonian. Herbert Lanier, Spike Andrew, Mitchell Reaves, and Jerry Barnard had an extra treat at the Washington Monument, where they joined the Victory in Vietnam rally! Our Junior year was really packed with activities. We were on the road again journeying to Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown. Most of us were trying desperately to conquer Chemistry, or rather meeting upstairs every morning to decide which poor soul would try to talk Mrs. Key out of the quiz that day and whose computations looked the strangest and therefore, the most correct! In the spring you could find us in the gym decorating for the Jr.-Sr. Prom. Which, by the way, was very appropriately named Morning of Our Lives . Finally the day came when we order- ed our class rings. It was then that we realized our days at Altavista High School were numbered, Our Senior year went by a little faster than most wished. We were caught in the hustle and bustle of ordering caps, gowns, graduation invitations, diploma covers, planning Class Night, and awaiting that day when we would graduate from Altavista High School! The Class of '72 has come a long way. We've learned a lot in those few short years. We've done a lot of growing up, too. But, as Longfellow once wrote, Nothing now is left but majestic memory.
