Before the Class of '72 bids farewell to Altavista High School, we pause and take a final look atlour high schoolidays... 2. Our eighth grade year was filled with new experiences: jammed lockers, gym suits, and our first Homecoming float. A masterpiece it was, with a variety of colored crepe paper and tissues. Of course it had to rain! Nevertheless we left our mark--soggy crepe paper all down Bedford Avenue! At Christmas time, we traveled to the planetarium at Chapel Hill, N.C. Everyone en- joyed themselves on, and off, the bus! Most of us spent our Freshman year struggling with foreign languages and Mr. Hawley's geo- metry. By now we had settled down into the routine. The highlight of our Sophomore year was our trip to Washington, D.C., where we toured the Capitol and Smithsonian. Herbert Lanier, Spike Andrew, Mitchell Reaves, and Jerry Barnard had an extra treat at the Washington Monument, where they joined the Victory in Vietnam rally! Our Junior year was really packed with activities. We were on the road again journeying to Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown. Most of us were trying desperately to conquer Chemistry, or rather meeting upstairs every morning to decide which poor soul would try to talk Mrs. Key out of the quiz that day and whose computations looked the strangest and therefore, the most correct! In the spring you could find us in the gym decorating for the Jr.-Sr. Prom. Which, by the way, was very appropriately named Morning of Our Lives . Finally the day came when we order- ed our class rings. It was then that we realized our days at Altavista High School were numbered, Our Senior year went by a little faster than most wished. We were caught in the hustle and bustle of ordering caps, gowns, graduation invitations, diploma covers, planning Class Night, and awaiting that day when we would graduate from Altavista High School! The Class of '72 has come a long way. We've learned a lot in those few short years. We've done a lot of growing up, too. But, as Longfellow once wrote, Nothing now is left but majestic memory. Minnie Miles, V. Pres. Becky Owen, Sec. Steve Jones, and Treas. Chip Carter. November 13, 1971. For some that may be an unlucky date but for the Class of 1973 it was a day of luck, For late sleepers it was perhaps a bit bothersome because we had to rise at four A.M. but this was soon forgotten in the excite- ment of a long bus trip to Williamsburg with our class- mates. Our knowledge and experience was braodened in more ways than one in spending the day touring Williams- . burg and Jamestown and then living it up with friends, During the school hours Mrs. Key kept us active from 9 A.M, to 3:04 P.M. Fifth period study hall was a toss-up between Room 210 and the clinic. After a hard time at money-raising and long, tiring hours of hard work preparing the Junior-Senior prom, we were rewarded with an overwhelming success and one of the finest dances in the history of A.H.S, Now we look forward to an outstanding final year and plan to make the Class of '73 the best ever, Glass Olas Julie Abbett Glenda Adkins Chuck Alt Ed Anthony Tommy Barbee Charlotte Bates Thomas Boley Kay Bolling R.A. We found many things con- fusing this year, such as: the first day of school, where our classes were at, and the lunch schedule, But after we over- came difficulties such as these, we found the high school to be a great place. We have done many pro- jects in Mr, Arthur's science class this year. One of the main ones being our search for the identity of an unknown sub- stance. A few of us found that the substance was bluestone, but for us not as scientifically inclined we had a great time searching for it. State In The Teachers Creed by Edwin Osgood Grover the two following statements seem appropriate for this occasion. T believe in boys and girls, the men and women of the great tomorrow; that whatsoever the boy soweth the man shall reap. ' And I believe in the curse of ignorance; in the efficiency of schools; in the dignity of teaching; and in the joy of serving others. The Nuntius is a chronical of people and events in the lives of the young people who refer to Altavista High School as ''Their School , The town of Altavista is a small town in the Piedmont Section of Virginia and the young people share the same hopes and aspirations, fears and anxieties as other such towns in this great land. And by the same token the people of the town and the school are proud of the ac- complishments of the boys and girls of this school. In a soon to come tomorrow the young people who have made the Nuntius possible will be the leaders of that to- morrow. It is our hope that the educational experiences pro- vided through this school will help these young ladies and gentlemen make that Great Tomorrow possible. We congratulate the Nuntius Staff for the fine spirit of cooperation and hard work which have gone into this fine yearbook. 56 MISS KATHLEEN BURNET TE A.B. Lynchburg College Mary Washington M. Ed. Clowning around on the buses was a favorite lunch past-time, An early departure schedule: many were found to have brought their breakfast with them. This year the Class of '72 Senior Court Trip was out of the ordinary considering that it consisted of two seperate trips. The bene- fits of these trips did not only include the fact that we were excused from classes on two seperate occasions but we were offered double the knowledge of court procedures. Z On those two days we gained a respect for Foe ke Sa jimi judges along with a better understanding of , re ' pal the jury system. Our trips were successful including the day that Mike Layne drove that blue Corvette home from Rustburg. 132 Court Trip Double Trouble Campbell County Courthouse: Where the seniors spent most of their time while in Rustburg.
