SENIORS SYLVIA DEAN WRENN Sib WILLIE MAXINE WRENN Mac u BOBBY LEE YOUNGER Jim CLASS HISTORY “WE DID NOT YIELD” In September 1941, we, the class of 1954, numbering eighty four began our long journey through the trials and tribulations, the joys and pleasures of school days. Though the first day was exciting, we were reluctant to let our mothers leave us alone in our classrooms with all of our classmates - many of whom were then strangers. However, Miss Freeland and Mrs. Aldridge soon had us feeling at home and we learned to print our names and add numbers. Highlights of our elementary school days include; learning to write and do arithmetic with the help of Mrs. Pickard and Mrs. Bost, beginning the study of grammar under Miss Brown and Miss Walker' being introduced to geography and long division by Miss Somers and Mrs. Bost; having Mrs. Alline Garrison and Miss Poole as fifth grade teachers; delving into ancient history with Mrs. McAdams and Mrs. Casey; beginning to understand American History with Miss Bondurant and Miss Riddle; and graduation day, May 29, 1950, when we stood in our white dresses and suits to receive our certifi- cates upon completing the eighth grade under the supervision of Mr. Bpifalo and Mrs. Saunders. September 1950, found us as green freshmen with delusions of sophistication. Mrs. Troxlerand Mr. Iseley were patient with a normal, though sometimes Ornery] group of youngsters. We were striving. We were quite familiar with high school procedures by September 1951 and viewed with disdain the new crop of freshmen. None of us, of course, ever could have been as green and uniformed as they! ! ! Mr. Iseley and Mr. Sechler guided us as we began to seek. With our return to school in September 1952 we passed the helf-way mark in high school. All thirty eight of us were in one home room for the first time. Another first for our class was the privilege of being the first Junior class to take a trip to Washington and New York, With Mrs. Truitt as our adviser we were beginning to find ourselves. We were in September 1953 Dignified Seniors without actually being dignified. Mr. Knight was the grandest senior sponsor ever. In retrospect, all our school days appear as good ones, and we will always retain fond memories of them. We hope that succeeding seniors will love our school as we have and be loyal to it as we have tried to be. We are proud of the fact that we have lived up to our motto - To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
