Practice Makes GYMNASTS The audience comes to a com- plete hush as the gymnast ap- proaches the bars, taking one slight pause to put chalk on heavily sweat- ing hands. She stops, takes one deep breath while looking up at the bar that seems to be a hundred feet off the ground, and lunges forward to begin a miraculous routine .. . Gymnastics is definitely one of the most strenuous, body-toning sports at Alta. The girls work out for at least three hours every day. not counting the dynamic meets they win. This shows how hard work can really pay off. “The team seems to grow stron- ger every year,” says coach Brent Hardcastle. “The girls work hard, and from that work the team re- Increasing team strength, newcomer Linda Brun- auer concentrates on balance and form. Another contribution to the team’s accomplishments is due to the friendships acquired within the group. Togetherness is definitely a strength within the girls. “We use our team unity as an ad- vantage, commented Niki Lenhart. “If we didn’t get along, we wouldn’t be much of a team. It’s like having a second family, states Kristy Anderson. We support each other as much as we can, and I think that's what keeps us number one!
