“Alta is unique in that you can know a lot of people yet still walk through the hallways without knowing a soul, Dustin Latimer tm “I have friends from many different social groups. I’ve found that even though people look different, we have a lot in common.” Cheri Campbell CROWDS — we were influenced by all varieties of people surrounding us. At first, we were overwhelmed by the overcrow- dedness, strong competition, and endless corridors. Feelings of anonymity and rejection arose as we walked through the hallways looking at the unfamil- iar. nameless faces. Then, we skeptically started grouping into cliques — rockers, new wavers, punkers, jocks, intellectuals — in hopes of sensing the feeling of acceptance among our peers and searching for our true identi- ties. Bouncing from clique to clique, we eventually came out and gained an understanding of who we really are — individuals, each unique and special in his own way. False personalities and pretending to be who we’re not disappear as our true individualism breaks free, no longer afraid of being our “real” selves. 200 Closing

I like attending such a large school because it’s easy for me to exist in anonymity,” Ben Valerio. “A positive feeling that I’ve experienced by being a part of a large group was attending football games. There was never just one person cheering; we all yelled together,” Racine Johnstun. Photo by Jason Taylor Photo by Howdid Smith Closing 201
