Wrestlers Capture Third Hammer Trophy Perhaps one of the greatest sports rivalries of the season was the annual ‘Battle of the Hammer. Alta claimed it’s right to keep the hammer tro- phy for its third consecutive year by defeating Bingham. The victory was assured by pins made by J. J. Jimenez 155. Ken Barentson 132, Philip Soderborg 185, and Tucker Nipko 105. On February 4th and 5th at Brighton, the Region Two wres- tling tournament was held. Brighton placed first in the re- gion, Alta took second. At re- gion, wrestlers from Alta placed in their appropriate weight class: First—Gary Gor- don 98, Second—Tucker Nipko 105, Third- -Eric Single- ton 112, Second—Steve Baer 138, Second—Jason Marlor 145, Third—Lee Fairbourn 167, First—Phil Soderborg 185, and Third—Dave Stoedter heavy weight. At the state wrestling cham- pionship held at Weber State, five wrestlers placed: Gary Gor- don—second, Tucker Nipko- —fifth, Eric Singleton—fourth, Steve Baer—sixth, and Lee Fairbourn—fifth. According to Coach Hender shot, 'Wrestling is the toughest sport in the school. Members of the team must learn to sacri- fice and they must have a lot of will power.
