There are thirty-one freshmen, nineteen boys
and twelve girls.
Out of four subjects there are only two that
the boys and girls have together. These are math
and general science.
Being our first year in high school we found
many things to get accustomed to. Such as, musical
events and school activities.
We also tossed in a lot of fun by attending
school parties and working on our float, which got
fourth.
The sophomores also gave us a hayride which
everyone enjoyed. In return we had to give the
sophomores a party.
Freshmen are offered a variety of subjects in-
cluding agriculture, industrial arts, home econom-
ics, general math, and general science.
The girls who take home economics have a
wide range of interesting and educational work to
do and learn. They have learned the art of cook-
ing breakfasts and luncheons. They also took up
sewing by making themselves aprons and gathered
skirts. They brought flowers to school and then
learned how to arrange them most effectively. At
Christmas time the high school Christmas tree was
trimmed by the girls. A party was given by the
freshmen girls for the kindergarten class with a
circus theme. To broaden their knowledge even
further they were allowed to take agriculture for
a Week. They learned different carpentry, pound-
ing nails and affixing hinges. They learned live-
stock feeding and the difference between the dif-
ferent types and breeds. Also a short course was
given on the basic wiring.
The vocational subjects offered to the boys
are industrial arts and agriculture. The boys tak-
ing shop are building cabinets, gun racks, and
small tables.
The agriculture boys are repairing machinery
and building different farm equipment items which
include, loader chutes, self feeders, and feed bunks.
The boys also took a week of home economics
where they learned how to sew, judging the qual-
ity of clothes, getting along with others - espe-
cially girls, and the last day they made ice cream
and brownies and served it to the girls.

One of the teachers of the freshman class is
Mr. Delbert McCoy. He was born in Terril, Iowa,
November 1, 1932. He has four sisters and three
brothers. He considers his home town to be Clark-
field, Minnesota. After graduation from high school
he attended St. Olaf College, Northfield, Min-
nesota, graduating in 1954. He then spent two years
in the armyg first at Fort Bliss, Texas, and then
at Fort Sam Houston. After this training he was
sent to France where he spent 17 months. He was
discharged on August 3, 1956 and began teaching
tere at Alia in the fall of 1956.
