The Panthers had the real spirit and,but for numerous bad breaks and injuries, might have been unconquez-able during the course of the season. Injuries sidelined Baldy Narragon, 'Gordie Hyde, Bud VanAtten, Doug Grover, and Chuck Smith. Gordie Vliet missed the Traverse City game because of a 'bad knee, but most terrible of all, the dread disease of polio took the life of Dick Bainbridge. Because of the treat of polio, two games were cancelled. However, in the six games played, the Panthers won two, tied one and lost three. The season started with Traverse Citywhich ended in a scoreless tie. Then after a three weeks lay-off, Mt. Pleasant was played in the Homecoming game. The Oilers took this hard fought game 6-0. The next week, after leading three quarters of the game, the Panthers lost a heart- breaker to Bay City Handy .18-7. The following week, turning the- tables, and coming out strong in the fourth quarter, the Alma Panthers pushed past Fremont 19-13. Then, with their claws sharpened the Panthers took a good Flint Tech team 19-6. They ended their season against a very good Cadillac team and were decisively beaten 46-6. 37
