CONFRONTATION WEEK 1970 Upon returning to Elliott campus after Spring Vacation, the stu- dents encountered a restricting revision of rules regarding dorm life. The intensity of student reac- tion was felt throug iout the cam- pus, culminating when the stu- dent body, through their student government, requested a convo- cation of students and school ad- ministration. On Wednesday, classes were can- celled and students, faculty, and administration gathered in the Lecture Hall to debate topics of conflict. The convocation was opened with an introductory ad- dress by student body President, Dan Farley, and an explanatory speech by student body Vice President, Paul Stephan, who then introduced Dean Robert Shannon. The convocation con- cluded with a discussion between administration and students. On Thursday, a compromising set of dorm regulations was submitted by the Shudent Council and ac- cepted by the administration. This confrontation was exemplary of continuing student administra- tion respect and cooperation. 96
