The success or failure of the students at Alliance High School is determined through the influ- ence and encouragement of our principal, assistant principal, and their loyal faculty members. 1306111.60 tion This year's Chronicle is dedicated to a man and the abiding principle he represents so wel! that of silent, unselfish service. In the fall of 1919 a forceful young man of athletic build entered the halls of A. H. S. as a woodworking teacher and assistant coach. He had attended Mt. Gilead High School. Denison Univer- sity, and Ohio State U. Now, he was about to begin a teaching career that is still going on. The high standards of right procedures and quality perfoi m- ance that he has maintained through the years has influenced many a young man. Edgar E. Kidwell has given to Alliance High School from 1919 to 1956 high and wonderful serv- ice. He has taught by example, the fine patterns of living that make for a better world. Throughout every avenue of his work as a teacher, a park superintendent, an army officer, a Boy Scout leader, and a family man, he has chosen the hard right against the easy wrong. The average high school student does not have the chance to know Mr. Kidwell personally, because his teaching field is limited to the field of wood- working. They are not conscious of his many serv- ices, because they are behind scenes, and the small thank you credits are often overlooked or for- gotten. This has not diminished the importance of his service or his willingness to be a part of every school activity. So that the record may be made known and that you may have a better picture of the man we honor, let's turn back the pages. For six years he was assistant coach in football. basketball, and track with Harry Geltz and Ralph Coppock. Over the years he has built parts of over forty stage sets for dramatic production. Operettas and musical productions have called upon him con- stantly for a Red Mill or part of a house or ship. Fall Varieties had him for 11 years as ane of the stars of the faculty act. The carnival booths each year have been erected and put back under his planning and management. The careful outside police supervision of cars, and their behavior around the building has been a job entrusted to him. No one can say how many acci- dents this continuous safety check has prevented in these many years, but the record stands that no serious accidents have ever lf-een recorded. Mr. Kidwell. many times has taken the job that had to be done when he would like to have sidestepped it. Many times he has been called on again because when he assumes the responsibility it is as good as done, and done right. The citizens of Alliance owe this same man an equal note of appreciation. For he started and has built as a lasting memorial to himself-the city park system. Silver Park known throughout Ohio for its excellence was planned and developed by Mr. Kidwell. The road has been long, the depres- sion difficult, the money appropriated always too little, but the progress of the parks has been always forward. Again to all of us the lesson of service has been lived out in the things he has done. In the spirit in which you have served, in the excellence of your standards, in the faithfulness you have held before us, the 1956 Chronicle is dedicated to you. To those who know you well it comes as a deserved reward. to those who do not know you may it serve as an introduction to a teacher that has served A. H. S. so well these many years. We salute youshldgar Kidwell. Kidwell. the late - Eleanor Garman, and XVhit in part of faculty act, Murder Opera, Inc., Kidwell starred in similar roles for 11 years.
