Mr. Guy Hoover came to Alliance after fourteen years of faithful service to the community of North Jackson, Ohio. In 1936, his first year of teaching in Alliance, he became the student co-ordinator for the high school. In addition to serving as dean of boys since 1940, he has taught Latin American history, ethics, economic geography, and Civics. As any of us who have ever had him in class can testify, his extensive travels have provided him with a wealth of stories and souvenirs. Central and South America, the Holy Land, and England are only a few of the places still quite vivid in Mr. Hoover's memory. Some people have a green thumb when it comes to growing a gar- den. Mr. Hoover seems to have the same touch when it comes to building character. His scouting work has given him innumerable opportunities to help and guide young men. During the last war, correspondence with service men gave many of them a picture of life back home. While serving so capably as dean, his advice has been a guiding light to many male mem- bers of the school population. Dedication Gertrude Pfouts Dean of Girls We, the student body of Alliance High School, dedicate this 1953 Chronicle to our understanding deans, Mrs. Gertrude Pfouts and Mr. Guy Hoover. To Mrs. Pfouts We Wish to show our appreciation for the work she has done for us and the help she has extended to us during our high school careers. In 1931, when the school first recognized the need for a dean of girls, Mrs. Pfouts was chosen for her understanding of young people. Since that time, she has proved her capability over and over again. While taking charge of delinquency and tardiness, she often serves as a counselor to those in need of help and advice. In addition to the invaluable service she is continually rendering in her present capacity as dean, she has also served the school and com- munity in many other Ways. During the depression she first became associated with the National Youth Association to find employment for students. She is still affiliated with this organization. She is one of the trustees of Scholarship Foundation, is on the Music Study Club scholarship committee, and works on the board for the Community Concert Series. She was patroness of the January, 1948, and June, 1951 graduating classes, and is an active worker in the First Methodist Church. 4
