CLASS HISTORY Twelve years ago, the present Senior Class, with bright ex- pectant faces, presented itself to the first grade of the Allen- town Union School to delve into the mysteries of Reading Ritein , and Rithmatic. Of the approximately fifteen or twenty first graders who start- ed in 19Ml only three, Pauline Potter, Gloria Bartlett, and Alfred Schram, have remained to the end. We started our high school years with an enrollment of only se- ven eager freshman, full of enthusiasm and extreme ideas, which our new principal Mr. Wightman immediately curbed and directed into the right channels. As a result we did many things that year such as selling popcorn at the basketball games, having a rummage sale and a few other activities to help us along. We entered the sophomore year with one less student. That year we enjoyed to the fullest. We sold stationery and netted twen- ty-three dollars and twelve cents. We also sold candy and basket- ball pins at the basketball games and had a dime dance which left us with one hundred and thirty-four dollars and sixteen cents In our treasury and two years to go. When we came to school as Juniors we had a large grade of two girls and two boys. We went in on two plays with the three seniors that year and sold basketball pencils and pop at the basketball games. We sold twelve dollars worth of Christmas cards. Along with the sophomores a trip was made to Angelica where we had a booth at the fair. The class rings were also bought that year. All this was under the direction of Mr. Eugene Schmidt. In September, as seniors we gained one more student which mad us five, but in October two students dropped out leaving us with only three. This year out of three, Alfred Schram is Editor and Gloria Bartlett is Assistant Editor of the school paper and year- book. We have raised our treasury up to almost five hundred dol- lars under the able supervision of Mrs. Kenneth Buttke. We are now planning to go to Washington in April on our senior trip. At graduation this year Allentown High will suffer the loss of one varsity cheerleader, one varsity basketball player, and an active member In the Library Club. We will always be grateful to our parents and teachers who helped us through these twelve years, giving us encouragement when the going was rough.
