me NNNN --W Nl mom s A--MW-we 47 POEMS PATIENCE My pay is small, the hours do gall. My feet are past complaining. If mothers squawk, I cannot talk. My patience I am straining. When school is done and every one Can hurry home to rest, I wonder why we teachers try To help the conntry's younger pests. -Carl Shepard. , REMINISCING Do you remember when we met long ago? The wind was blowing and huge flakes of snow Gently drifted down from the sky, Looking as if they might try To cover the whole world by themselves Without the aid of the fairies and elves. Do you remember that quarrel we had? The last-and I was, oh, so sad, But you went gaily on your merry ways' And it seemed to me you tried to say, You go your way, l'l1 go mine You've taken enough of my time. But the wedding, darling was a beauti- ful thing, Instead of crying it made you singg You were so handsome and stood so straight, And so was the girl who was to be your mate: The music started playing, she walked toward you, Me? Why I just sat there in my own little pew. -Kate Higgins. THE BROOK Little brook, travel on Sing so merrily Over hills and through green fields Till you reach the sea. Bathe the feet of boys 1h2t wadc And sail small boats along Flow over stones with ripplc gay Sing a laughing song. Nothing to stop you or block your way You flow along so free Little brook, travel on Till you.reach the sea. -Rose Payne. TIME Time is slowly slipping by Silently, quietly moving away, We're all growing older day by day Because Time waits on no man, they say. We ask the when and where and why, And if we've passed the test g For soon some day our head will rest Upon the Master's chest. -Marjorie Howe. THE SEASONS Spring is here! . The air seems new! The buds have budded, The Whole night through. The air is changingg It's raining too. The South winds are blowing The clouds awayg The nights are shorter With a longer day: I thought I was right And now II knowg The Dogwood blossom Has told me so. Summer is here! With all its ways, lgs green June crops, And hot August days. What's that I hear? I couldn't be wrong. Mixed enchantment! The Whipporwill song! Why all these colors? What can it mean? Why the blue, In every stream? Why the radiant color? Why the changed atmosphere? There is only one answer. Fall is here. So we bring to a close, As well as we can. The earth needs rest, As well as man. This is the wintery months, The Season's best With snow capped mountains And crimson crest. -Jimmy McDonald.
