me A----We in :Moles NNNN M- cr PREACHER SAM Preacher Sam, Part time junk man, With his sway back horse, A voice of great force, An assortment of rags Stuffed in dingy, patched bags, A collection of tin goods Banking gaily against wood, As he drives through the street Over his well known beat, Pulls up to a stop To question the cop. There's no man who loves his work, Be he butcher or ham As this Preacher Sam. But all too soon day is out, So he slowly turns about, For tomorrow's the seventh day, And he has to earn his pay By orating to his flock Of the soundness of the Rock, In which Gcd's followers have stock. -Donald Price A HERO A soldier was wounded and dying, He lay on the battlefield grim. He heard the sound of a bugleg The bugle was blowing ior him! As he lay in the slush that evening, A voice could be heard from afar, The voice was that of millions- A voice that no lone could bar. The voice was calling to Jesus, Dear God, forgive us that we Have only one life for -our country- One life, but we wish it were three. God's heart was heavy ladeng He answered his sons in pain. All sins are forgiven in heaven, My sons, you shall live again. --Martha Corrie POEMS SUCCESS? I drag through all my classes I just ain't smart I guess, I get red marks on my grade card, You see I ain't a success. I ain't no use to my mother, Can't cook or make a dress, Can't mop or wash the dishes, You see I ain't a success, I ain't no use to my father Can't cut hay or grass, Can't even drive a tractor, You see I ain't a success. I just ain't no good for nothing Lazy all over, I guess, If doing nothing was something, I'd be a great success. -Rose Payne. MY GIRL Eyes large and luminous. Cheeks soft and pink, Lips sweet and lovely, Just like you'd think. That's my girl. Hair black as midnight, Curling tresses falling over her lovely shoulders, Making my love for her burn more deeply- Starting like a fire that slowly smoulders. That's my girl. A cigarette held in two slim fingers Dark hair cascading down her back, Curled up like a kitten in an armchair, That was my girl. But as all lovely things fade, Because of worry and perhaps strife, So has she- Because she's now my wife! -Gretchen Hipsher.
