A History of Our School If you had come to Allen County High School twenty-seven years ago in 1941, there would have been approximately 120 high school students being taught by tive teachers in tive classrooms. If you were to visit the same place today, you would see approximately 765 students and 36 teachers busily working in 26 classrooms and 3 mobile units. This is quite a contrast-120 students to 765 students. 5 classrooms to 29 classrooms, and 5 teachers to 36 teachers. Originally there were four high schools in the county for our students. They were Mount Zion near Holland, Mount Victory near Trammel, Meador in the north, and Petroleum in the south. In 1941 Mount Victory and Meador High Schools merged to form Allen County High School. The tive teachers who taught this year were Mr. Simmons as Principal and history teacher, Mr. Claudius Harris, Mrs. Nadine Spencer, Mrs. Lola Weaver, and Mr. B.O. Hinton. For one year approximately 120 students attended Allen County. Then in 1942 the students from Petroleum and Mount Zion joined us. The new teachers added this year were Mr. and Mrs. Fraim, Mr. Woodward, Miss Lula Dalton, and Mr. Whitlow. After Allen County High had been in existence for only one full year, disaster struck. Cn May 10, 1942 the building bumed. Practically the whole structure was destroyed. The day after the tire, work was started to rebuild the school. Four men-Deck Spencer, Stirling Lambert, Burbon Myers, and T.C. Simmons did most of the work of rebuilding the school. The work was slow and discouraging. As the students would walk from class to class on rainy days, it would rain on them through the holes in the roof. Through the years many changes, improvements and additions have been made to that first building here at Allen County High. Each of these changes was much needed. At the present time we are all looking forward to the new Allen County High School building. The spirit of our student body and the competent faculty has made our school one of the finest in the area. We feel that with improvements soon to be made in our physical facilities Allen County High School will continue to grow and improve with the times, developing the minds and hearts of young people and preparing them for the years ahead.
