Eauicl 'UaugAan gffecfecl Sfale gefa prrmiclenf ,wa- If there is one person whom our Beta Club should honor, it is our President, David Vaughan. He has been an outstanding member for three years, always willing to donate his time and talents to the club and always striving to uphold the club's principles. Last year David was our Vice- President and did an excellent job working with the committee members and other officers. When we nominated him as a candidate for State President, David was honored and was determined to do his best in representing our club. We enioyed working together during the few months before election. We distributed letters and cards to all the other Beta Clubs in Kentucky and made post- ers to hang at the Convention Headquarters in Louisville. A song was written about David and was sung to the tune of Rock Around the Clock as the Beta members in the band played the fa- miliar theme. Upon arriving in Louisville, we campaigned in both the Sheraton and Kentucky Hotels. We were thrilled when it was announced that David had been elected for this was a title that no previous member of our Beta Club had ever held. Hundreds of Betas arrived in Louisville on Friday, December 2, i966 for the annual convent- ion. Although the registration was held in the Kentucky Hotel, Betas were soon to be seen arriv- ing at the other nearby hotels. As the day passed, the lobbies slowly cleared of luggage and the registration lines grew shorter. That night i800 Beta members gathered in Convention Center for our first session. David opened the meeting and delivered the key-note address. A talent show was held with awards presented to all participants. On Saturday morning we again gathered to meet the nominees for state office. Afterwards a delegate from each club voted on the nominees. We were free Saturday afternoon for shopping, movies, or other things. That night we assembled in the Flag Room of the Kentucky Hotel for the banquet and installation of officers. After David made his farewell address he received a standing ovation. Following the banquet a dance was held for the members and their guests. Early Sunday morning, tired but happy, we boarded our bus to return home-proud of the honor that David Vaughan had brought to our club, our school, and our community.
