«m ; T yf TROJAN ’85 TAKING IT TO THE LIMIT ALLEGHANY HIGH SCHOOL SPARTA, N.C. ymr eee limit (M mlt) n. the utmost extent; an extreme; referring principally to establishing a maximum. Sharon Worrell and Freddy Roupe prove the difficulty of o prom server's tasks. Bang Your Head! a The tennis team enthusiastically participates in a pre-match talk. Penny Johnson remembers Homecoming. Tommy Dalton works diligently to assist the football team. 3 The band practiced for weeks before school began, but on Friday nights at the football games their hard work is evident. With only three minutes between classes, these AHS students better move quickly. a 7 8 With our Homecoming victory over the Ponthers, we began to make this year the utmost, the greatest, the limit. Teresa Arnold and Terry Hale struggle through Freshmen Science. maximum (maksi mum) n. the greatest quantity or value attainable in a given case; the highest degree. Homecoming Queen, Joon Bryan, flashes that winning smile. 3 Kothy. Alice in Wonderland is in the children's section. Boy, Heath, that'll teach you never to run for President again! ID THE LIMIT Homecoming Week, Uproar '84 , though cut short by Mon- day’s Parent-Teacher Confer- ence, was a time to remember, full of spirit and Trojan pride. The excitement began to build on Tuesday with T-Shirt and Shade Day. Wednesday, the true frontier spirit was in the air with Western and Bandana Day. That evening at eight o’clock, students armed with marshmal- lows and hot dogs warmed up at the bonfire. The arrival of Thurs- day, Crazy Day, brought about the true personalities of AHS students. Michael Jackson, Boy George. Playboy Bunnies, and many other crazies roamed the halls. Lisa Lightner won the rib- bon for the craziest outfit. Friday was full of victorious hope and pride as the student body dis- played our school colors, Green and Gold. There was a surge of energy at our home- coming assembly as game time approached. At seven thirty that evening, the energy of AHS fans filled the stadium. During half- time, the 1984 Homecoming Queen and Maid of Honor were announced. Accompanied by cheers and tears, Anita Reeves received Maid of Honor and Joan Bryan became our new Homecoming Queen. To make a perfect week even better our Trojan team defeated Ashe Central 28-0. After the game, we all celebrated with a victory dance. NOT JUST flo V pA(?ENT 7£ K!H8£ GOA4FE££NC£ Sleep Hey, Coach White, the parents are looking for you!! i 5WeS . pUAfJje. Many new ideas were incorporated through- out the annual. Seniors were able to have their names engraved on their annuals. We also added a new vocational section and featured Homecoming Week. Our new Annual Staff elected three editors who along with the spon- sors provided creativity, leadership, and pa- tience. We hope this yearbook will provide much enjoyment and happy memories for 19B4-B5 A.H.S. students. Aren't these beautiful eyes'? os Advertising Managers — Missy Hawkins. Belinda Higgins. Several talented young members joined the group; one of whom made the Junior High School All-State Band tryouts. Barry Galyean, Greg McKnight, Sonya Shaw, and Danny Todd were selected. The band entered their first com- petitions. receiving two trophies and a plaque. The majorettes re- ceived a second-place trophy at Enka. and the flags and rifles re- ceived a second-place trophy at In- dependence. We, the editors, in gathering all the collective thoughts for TROJAN '85 . “Taking It To I he Limit , surpassed our own expectations in acheiving our utmost. Yet, none of this could have been possible without the patience and guidance we received throughout the year from many supportive people. There are many people who deserve recognition for their input into this yearbook. Most of all we would like to thank Mrs. Irwin, Mrs. Armentrout, and Ms. Daniel, our sponsors, whose strong guidance directed us through numerous trying moments. This year s Annual Staff Class provided lots of creative ideas and hard work. Special thanks go out to Crystal Hall and Karon W orrell, our typists; Carol Truitt, our talented artist; and Stephanie Bryan, our reporter. M e would also like to thank Mr. Taylor for letting us use his office during third period. A special thanks goes to our parents for listening to our complaints. Finally, we would like to express our appreciation to Mr. Keith, faculty, and students for being so co-operative and understanding on picture days. As this year comes to a close, we hope our anmuil will be an accurate record of the Life and I imes ofA.H.S. Most people do not realize how much of ourselves we poured into this. As our final deadline approaches, we look back at the year and see a change in ourselves. Handling pressure and weighing conflicting opinions is a skill we have learned in nurturing the growth of our yearbook. M e are very proud as we see our annual come to fruition and realize that we had a part in this creation. Good Luck. God Bless, We Love You Sherry Vaughn, Mary Dillon, Kim Lucas — Editors We would like to extend our thanks for the many contributums from our generous patrons. Without them, the 1985 Trojan yearbook would not have been possible. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Irwin, Mrs. Armentrout, Ms. Daniel, and the Annual Staff Members.
