HISTORY OF THE CLASS CDF 1960 In September 1954 approxumately 260 new students entered Allegany Hugh School Wude eyed and eager to learn we were soon to become The Senuor Class of 1960 As those Iuttle seventh graders we re member well such personalutues as Judy Coop er Rodney Breedlove Nancy Duncan Duck Johnson and Ronnue l.ueb The boys espe cually recall the face of Shelby Wutt Muss Allegewu of 1954 55 Our furst year at Alco was the year of the Duxue Kats who not only gauned fame un the tru state area but un New York also An honor was bestowed upon Robert Weusman who was featured n the Alcohu Murror as the youngest hom un the area All of us remember the most popu lar song of the year See You Later Allu gator In our second year at Allegany Jergen Bless from Germany uouned us We were fas cunated by hus accent and soon Jergen was one of the gang As eughth graders many new doors were opened Boys and gurls trued out for uunuor chour eughth grade football uunuor glee clubs mauorettes and cheer leaders Rodney Breedlove was a football standout Presudent Dwught D Eusenhower and hus furst lady Momue were the popularuty I8 poll contest wunners for the fourth tume Suxteen Tons led the hut parade At last all 247 of us had a name Fresh men Carol Long represented our class as a senuor band mauorette Barbara Muller was chosen freshman attendant to the Camper Queen Sandy Hatfueld Dr W Ardell Haunes uouned the staff of Allegany as pruncupal re placung Mr Raymond McCullough who be came superuntendent of schools un Talbot County Bonnue Armstrong copped the lead un the SID productuon The Football Hero of manager of the cafeterua after suxteen and a half years of servuce As freshmen we were requured to take the IQ examunatuons whuch were quute an experuence' In our sophomore year the class offucers were Bull Claus presudent Sue Taylor vuce presudent .lo Ann Carscaden secretary and Jack Kauffman treasurer Muss Orpha Bonuta Prutchard was our advusor The sophomore class was the largest due to the arruval of many students from Cresaptown The class enrollment totaled 316 We were well repre sented un the band and cheerleaders Donna Stune and Irene Brown were added to the ma uorettes whule Mary Beth Sheehe served as I I I 1 l ' - ll - ll ' f II ll - II Il Il - II ' ' ' I ' . a punnor varsuty cheerleader Once agann Bar bara Muller was chosen to represent us nn the Turkey Dov festrvltles At the end of the year Mary Ann Cuba was added to the varsnty cheerleading squad As lunlors we were led by Bull Claus Teaette Shelton Judy Murphy and Mary Ann Cuba president vlce presudent secretary and treas urer respectlvely Mass Pntchard was advlsor Eruc Fable won fnrst place In the annual speech contest Susle Geppert was lunnor attendant Long served as head mayarette Under her were Donna George and Fran Specht new ma jorettes Mary Beth Sheehe was chosen head at the JV cheerleaders whsle Sally Gerson was added to the squad Baldy Powell a lunuor member of the football team was one at the fastest runners an the area ln February we recenved our long awauted class rlngs Our junuor veor was one of hula hoops tads and music wnth a beat Our tavorute song Topsy Part ll In May Donna George and Joy Luc klewlcz were chosen to head the Junlor Senlor Prom Orlental Gardens Tlme passed swuttly by as we became mnghty sensors Bull Claus was presldent for the thlrd consecutlve year Other oftlcers were Eruc Fable and Mary Ann Cuba co vuce presudents Teaette Shelton secretary and Charles Aron halt treasurer Once agaun Muss Prutchard led u In varuous actlvutues The student councnl presnded by Robert Welsman was revived by the class of l96O Sally Gerson became edltor of the Allegewl Janet Shanholtz was edntor at the Alcohu Mnrror and president of Trl Hn Y Charles Aronhalt was elected to the pres ndency of the Natnonal Honor Socnetyf Mary Ann Cuba head cheerleader led us nn yells son Erlc Fable served as president of Hn Y The entlre sensor class will remember l959 as the year Allegany beat Fort Hull on Turkey Day by the score of 20 O It was the furst bug vlctory over Fort l-lull ln thlrteen years Camper Queen and her attendant were Judy Wharton and Sandie Topper Carol Long and Donna Stnne won the posltuons at head and drum malorettes respectively The Se n IO r Prom Senior Sermon and groduotron came In June Our class has shared together slx years of happy yet sometlmes trylng experiences We hate to leave the halls of Allegany but know we must To all the students and faculty of Allegany l-llgh School the Sennors of 60 say Farewell X . . .
