edicafiolz LEVEN YEARS AGO, in February, 1930, a new teacher came to our school from New Kensington to serve on our faculty. Since that time, he has become our di- rector of activities in Taylor Allderclice and has niost capably filled his position. It is in sincere respect and gratitude f-or the many fine deeds and services that he has rendered this grad- uating class, that we thoughtfully dedicate our Journal to Mr. K-orona. 5

Gila Gfppreciafiozz ITH SINCEREST appreciation for their patience, their understanding, and their untiring efforts in behalf of the school, we dedicate this page to the members of our faculty who have retired from teaching. In Septem-ber, 1929, Miss Hester Baird came to this school from North Continuation School. ln Allderdice she taught the social sciences until her retirement in 1940. Now living in Crafton, Miss Baird spends mu-ch of her time working in her garden, of which she 'is very proud. During the WVorld War, Mrs. Catherine Hoyt, who is deeply inter- ested in social service work, became an active member of the American Red Cross. Even during her stay at Allderdice she found time to par- ticipate in that work. Mrs. Hoyt served capably as head of the book- room from 1928 until this year. After teaching at both Fifth Avenue and Peabody, Miss Anna G. Richey came to Allderdice as instructor of French. She is a Vassar graduate and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, national honorary scholastic fraternity. An extensive traveler, Miss Richey has toured the whole world. Since her retirement in February, she has been continuing her travels. Miss Lucy A. South came to the Pittsburgh Public School System from Uniontown. First she taught at Colfax, when Allderdice was opened in 1924, she joined our faculty as girls' adviser, in which capacity she served until this February. At present Miss South is living in Jackson- ville, Florida. 4 4

Zin Memoriam p N DECEMBER 25, 1940, Mr. Abraham Sissman died suddenly in the midst of a busy season of school work. A professi-onal photographer in Pittsburgh for over thirty years, Mr. Sissman had specialized during the last fifteen years in school photography. The present pupils of Allderdice and the members of the different classes in the years gone by will never forget the kind, gentle man who so quickly put every one at ease when the sitter was so worried and nervous at picture-taking time. Mr. Sissman always felt that each school was his schoolg each class, his classg every student, his friend. It was undoubtedly this personal pride and interest which he took that endeared him to all who knew him. Mr. Sissrnan was a man of simple tastes. He ha-d few interests outside of his work. He made his work his entire lifeg and he died While hard at the work he loved. Allderdice will sorely miss Mr. Sissman who has established himself in the hearts of all in this school. 6
