Text from Pages 1 - 72 of the 1984 volume:

CjCASS mjszokv In September of 1980, we, the class of nineteen hundred eighty-four, began the journey toward our graduation-eleven in number: Corey Hafford, Becky Hafford, Polly McBreairty, Darren Hafford, Belinda Jackson, Shelley McBreairty, Kim Kelly, Kim Jackson, Cara Kelly, Lisa Wilson and Elbridge McBreairty. Elbridge McBreairty did not return our second year and Todd Puckett joined us for one year only. Lisa Wilson also did not return that year. After our junior year we lost four students who left to attend college early: Cara Kelly, Kim Kelly, Kim Jackson, and Shelley McBreairty, but they plan to return for graduation. Becky Hafford decided to finish her education through correspondence courses and plans to return for graduation. Now that we have reached our final year, we are four in residence: Corey Hafford, Darren Hafford, Belinda Jackson, and Polly McBreairty. Through the years we have enjoyed the times together, planning dances, having raffles and a semi-formal dance, which was a change because there has never been any form of formal dances at this school. We would like to wish our underclassmen the best in whatever they plan to do. We, the Senior Class of 1984, are proud and honored to dedicate our yearbook to a very special person. A humanist in the purest sense of the word-children were individuals and allowed to be heard. Demeaning the child was just not her style. She made them think of their mistakes for awhile, never had to raise her voice to make them obey, just got their attention in a subtle sort of way. The child’s status in society was completely ignored and throughout the school year the students ability soared. Some children who had lost themselves on the way soon discovered, I'm important! What more can I say?” An excellent teacher and we want it heard: “Ruth the humanist in the purest sense of the word.” IN MEMORY OF MARVIN DALE KELLY 11 8 63 - 12 2 83 He lived his short life to the fullest Dearly cherished by all who knew him, And rarely faltered in his stride. He’ll be surely missed by everyone. He knew how to live; he knew how to love; “Why , we wonder, “did he have to go? And he always brought his family pride. This man so strong and young. With the roar of his pick-up truck, Our questions can't be answered, His waving hand and flashing smile, And we really shouldn’t ask, He took life’s problems as they were presented, Because the Lord gave Marvin to us; Enjoying the challenge of each trial. And now He wants him back. Taking pleasure in nature’s gifts, One further thought must be added. He respected the beauty of this land. To each it should be known, He loved to go swimming; he worked in the woods. That Jesus gives us life on earth He was thankful for all that God put in his hands. But when it's time He’ll take us home. Snowmobile riding was his favorite sport, by Glenda Beth Hafford And that's how it happened one December day, While out for a ride on Friday afternoon, At twenty years old he was swept away. W MSMOKV 07 mw KSCJCV Jesus came for her when night was dark and still for an empty place in heaven our Savior longed to fill an angel gently took her placed her in His care to live with Him in His kingdom His love forever share through life we all journey striving for our goals forgetting about our Savior just playing out our roles but somehow she knew better there was so much more that Jesus was her Savior to meet at Heaven’s door so when an angel comes for us to take us away on high what a wonderous celebration with Jesus, her and I........... 5 6 neeuy MA330KD 8 mawA VACKSOW Volleyball-2 Softball-1 Vice-Pres.-3 Sec.-Tres.-4 Yearbook Staff-4 The Lamp of Life Always we are following a light, Always the light recedes; with groping hands We stretch toward this glory, while the lands We journey through are hidden from our sight Dim and mysterious, folded deep in night. We care not, all our utmost need demands Is but the light, the light! So still it stands Surely our own if we exert our might. Fool! Never can’st thou grasp this fleeting gleam, Its glowing flame would die if it were caught, Its value is that it doth always seem But just a little farther on. Distraught, But lighted ever onward, we are brought Upon our way unknowing, in a dream. 9 Amy Lowell eAKA am Ksjxy Tres-1,3 Speech is not only means of understanding be- tween two souls. It is not the syllables that come from the lips and tongues that brings hearts to- gether. Silence illuminates our souls, whispers to our hearts, and brings them together. 10 11 DAKKStf PAUJC MAJ JOK'D Softball 1.2 SCR 4 THIS MOMENT i I may never see tomorrow; there’s no written guarantee. And things that happened yesterday belong to history. I cannot predict the future, and I cannot change the past. I have just the present moment; I must treat it as my last. I must use this moment wisely for it soon will pass away. And be lost to me forever as a part of yesterday. I must exercise compassion, help the fallen to their feet. Be a friend unto the friendless, make an empty life complete. Paul F. Barnett 12 KJM SAMSON Sec.- 1,3 Basketball- 9 The Long Hill I must have passed the crest a while ago And now I am going down- Strange to have crossed the crest and not to know, But the brambles were always catching the hem of my gown. All the morning I thought how proud I should be to stand there straight as a queen, Wrapped in the wind and the sun with the world under me- But the air was dull, there was a little I could have seen. It was nearly level along the beaten track And the brambles caught in my gown- But it's no use now to think of turning back, the rest of the way will be only going down. 13 by Sara Teasdale KJM Ksccy The Gift of Friendship Friendship is a priceless gift, That cannot be bought or sold. But its value is far greater then A mountain made of gold. For go.d is cold and lifeless It can neither see nor hear, And in a time of trouble It is powerless to cheer. It has no ears to listen Nor a heart to understand It cannot bring you comfort Or reach out a helping hand. So, when you ask God for a gift Be thankful if he sends Not diamonds, pearls or riches but The love of real true friends ... 14 15 SMSjCCSV MemsAmzy Basketball- 9 THE ROAD NOT TAKEN Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be on traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodded black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Congratulations graduating class of 1984. During the past school years you’ve encountered the many joys and hardships experienced by all who earn a high school diploma. Although you've achieved an important goal down your pathway of life, you must continue your education to cope with the numerous social, economic and technological changes of our society. 46 I wish you great success and the best of luck. OUK eCASS SOM The Famous Final Scene Think in terms of bridges burned Think of seasons that must end See the rivers rise and fall They will rise and fall again Everything must have an end Like an ocean to a shore Like a river to a stream Like a river to a stream It's the famous final scene And how you tried to make it work Did you really think it could How you tried to make it last Did you really think it would Like a guest who stayed too long Now it's finally time to leave Yes, it's finally time to leave Take it calmly and serene It’s the famous final scene It’s benn coming on so long You were just the last to know It’s been a long time since you’ve smiled Seems like oh so long ago Now the stage has all been set And the nights are growing cold Soon the winter will be here And there’s no one warm to hold Now the lines have all been read And you knew them all by heart Now you move toward the door Here it comes the hardest part Try the handle of the road Feeling different feeling strange.
