CLASS HISTORY In August of 1979, we seniors, Russell (Jay) Hafford, Kevin O’Leary, Carl Hafford, Kurt Hafford, Melford (Meffie) Hafford, Janelle Pelletier, Connie O’Leary, Tressa McBreairty, Patsy McBreairty, and Joann Gardner, began our freshman year. Through four years together we have shared many experiences. Our freshman and sophomore years found us involved in our studies, as well as in basketball and softball. As our junior year began, we were anxiously planning car-washes, dances, bake sales, etc. to raise money for our yearbook fund. Then, in October a large part of our school was burned. And, although it will be a memory we will carry forever, we “made it”. The senior year brought many more changes. A new gym floor was laid and our basketball teams were once again able to play on our home court. The yearbook was started and many plans were made for graduation. Yet, through all the anticipation and planning, we also realized that graduation would mark the end of our high school years. We will always have the memories of all that we shared. As we leave Allagash High, we can accomplish much if we try hard enough — “The Sky is Our Limit!” We, the Senior Class of 1983, are proud and honored to dedicate our yearbook to a very special person. For giving her husband up to twenty-four basketball players, nine of them seniors, for four months a year, we feel it most appropriate that we dedicate our yearbook to her. With highest esteem and love we dedicate our yearbook to Mrs. Irene Murphy. 3 We. the class of '83, appreciate the helpful assistance of our secretary. Linda McBreairty. Congratulations to each member of the class of ’83. You have made it in spite of obstacles that might have disuaded others. You have participated, perservered and succeeded. I wish you continued success in all that you attempt in the future. For a friendly heart has the magic touch Which turns into gold each day and finds in the glorious here and now The secret of happiness today. Janelle Pelletier Our class of Eighty-Three Five girls-five boys Young strangers starting school Learning to share our toys. Becoming friends was easy We got along quite well Playing kickball at recess Games stopping at the bell. We grew to young adults Grammar school soon to end Sharing the secrets of homework From Friend to friend to friend. High school brought the difference Between the boys and girls The boys were into engines The girls were into curls. We’re closer now than ever The end is coming near Graduation is exciting Also sad-we fear. Our class of Eighty-Three Five boys-five girls The once young strangers starting school Is only a memory of another world. Connie O’Leary This I may never see tomorrow; there’s no written guarantee. And things that happened yesterday belong to history. I cannot predict the future, and I cannot change the past. I have just the present moment I must treat it as my last. I must make this moment precious for it will not come again. And 1 can never be content with things that might have been. Kind words I fail to say this day may ever be unsaid. Moment For I know not how short may be the path that lies Ahead. I may never see tomorrow, but this moment is my own. It’s mine to use or cast aside; the choice is mine, alone. I have just this precious moment in the sunlight of today, Where the dawning of tomorrow meets the dusk of Yesterday. Kevin O’Leary THE BEST IS YET TO BE As wonderful as schooldays are- So full of fun and laughter- The best and richest times you’ll know Will come a few years after So close the door behind you now And as you turn away Review the dreams and plans you’ve made And hold them fast today Walk proudly as you move along, Feel young and strong and free, And let your heart repeat these words- “The best is yet to be!” Kurt Hafford In Loving Memory of my Grandparents; Clifford and Mary Pelletier Patsy McBreairty 41 I would like to dedicate this poem to my classmates as well as the up-coming seniors. It’s Far From Over They step into view as the tension grew Half asleep, but so are you. Waiting to see your loved one crowned By having the tassel turned around. They think they broke the elastic band Standing together hand-in-hand. I feel that they have just begun To start a race that’s never won. Today they stand at the runner’s gate Too quick to run, don’t want to wait. 1 hope they thought of what they can do I like to think I’ve learned this, too. With all my love, Tressa McBreairty Friendship In the years before we met The friends I had were few I always wished that I would get A friend as dear as you. I remember that stormy argument And I was on your side, 1 understood your problems And in you I could confide. I had a beautiful thought So far up in my mind, That you were the one to be my friend Because you were so kind. I knew I had to find a way To show you that I cared, So I thanked you on that special day For the friendship that we shared. I was glad tat you were here To help pass the time of day, And I never had a fear That you would go away. I remembered that one late last night When you tried to make me see, That everything would be all right Between both you and me. Then the day was finally here For you to say good-bye. And I became so full of fear But 1 tried hard not to cry. The next few days were the worst Because all 1 did was try To tell myself it would be okay, But all I did was cry. Now 1 look upon the days Of the friendship that we shared, And everything you said to me Showed me that you cared.
