Text from Pages 1 - 78 of the 1968 volume:

■■■■ Under your name we have learned fcLL ftCrt $H HIGH SCHOOL ?4ni7nTT the meaning of loyalty... THE CAMPUS SCENE IS COMPOSED OF MANY THINGS... PEOPLE... BUILDINGS... IDEAS. PEOPLE MEETING... TALKING... LISTENING... PLAYING. PICTURED ARE BUT A FEW OF THE VARIOUS ACTIVITIES THAT TRANSPIRE AROUND THE CAMPUS. To ouf parents... whose interest has been in the improvement of our lives... whose encouragement, patience, and love has been inspirational.. .and whose never-ending sacrifices have made these years of education possible... it is with deep felt gratitude that we dedicate this annual to you. SECRETARY: Mrs. Dorothy Gardner SUPERINTENDENT-PRINCIPAL Mr. Garfield C. King Members of the Class of 1968. when we first met you were in the third grade. At that it would have been difficult to invision this class as you are today: sophisticated Seniors, well favored, competant, young men and women about ready to step forward to make your way in a demanding world. The change is nothing less than miraculous, and because the size of our school district created student-teacher relations that are hardly possible anywhere but here in Allagash. I have been priviledged to watch the entire process as few educators have. Let us look back on what has taken place for there is a lesson to be learned. For nine years we have almost unknowingly watched fantastic changes occur. Physically, I watched a number of children pass through the ages, stages, and phases which are the metamorphosis of human kind: producing in the end that butterfly of a human being that exists for such a short while between the desire to become and the desire not to become. Scholastically I have watched them progress from grade to grade overcoming each obstacle and frustration until now you are about to grasp the paper trophy worth so little yet valued so highly. You watched a beginning young teacher slip physically from the prime of life to tetter on the rim of middle age as he collected the advancements that are the reward for growing older in service. So over the years I have been your teacher, your principal and now in the years of your triumph I am also your superintendent. We were nine students who began to paddle our crafts to higher knowledge: Diane Soucy, Paula McBreairty, Kathy Kelly, Janice Kelly, Jason Kelly, Roger Jackson, Niles Kelly, Allan McBreairty, and Wesley Walker. During our sophomore year, we lost Roger Jackson, who went to work in Presque Isle. Also, we lost Paula McBreairty and Diane Soucy who left for Connecticut, where they attended school for a brief period of time. Later in the year they returned to join us. Our junior year again found us with one less. Wesley Walker attended Glen Cove Christian Academy in Glen Cove, Maine. This left only seven of us to row on. Later Niles Kelly dropped out leaving only six and Peggy McBreairty returned to join us after attending school in Connecticut. We again were seven members paddling on and upward. Our senior year we began with eight members of the old gang. Wesley Walker came back to join us. During the month of December three of our female members up and left us to get married. Peggy McBreairty married Jan Soucy, but continued to attend school. Kathy Kelly married Joel Jackson and Paula McBreairty married Harold Walker. That left six of us to finish our trip. Diane Soucy, Peggy Soucy, Janice Kelly, Jason Kelly, Allan McBreairty, and Wesley Walker. We are proud tonight to say the struggle was hard and up hill, but we are all ready to meet the challenge the future holds for us.
