Marge McBreairty. Principal's Message Socrates, the famous Greek Philosopher, once said All I do know, is that I don't know. If one can grasp the significance of these famous lines, then they are truly on the road to knowledge and wis- dom. Knowledge for the sake of knowledge, as followed by Western Man has little inner value unless tempered with wisdom. In an age that is materialistic and literally, crying for better understanding, Man needs wisdom and a sense of values and this can come only from education of the intensified type. We tend to think of ourselves as living in a vacuum isolated from the outside world at times but this can no longer be true as methods of transportation and communication have made distance practi- cally nil. Science has opened a new world to us but not one that is any easier to live in. It has created as many problems as it has seemingly solved, yet man's curiosity knows no bounds. We cannot go back- wards but must go ahead with the times. This demands of all of us a continuing search about Science, Man, and men who are shaping our destiny. If we, the faculty, have been able to impart some wisdom and understanding along with our know- ledge to you, then perhaps we have put you on the path to a better and fuller life. Seniors, the future is yours. Use it wisely, as there can be no road of return. On the first day of high school in 1956 when Mr. Levi Dow counted noses, there were found to be nine frightened but eager to learn Freshmen. Dola Walker, Hazel Kelly, Lola Jackson, Helen Kelly, Beverley Gardner, Sammy Michaud, Thomas Henderson, Roderick Harvey, and Vaughn Pelletier. Our Sophomore year we lost two of our classmates, Roderick and Vaughn. With the start of our Junior year we found only four of the class ready to make the long trek to Fort Kent Community High. Thomas, Sammy, Beverley, and Helen. The Seniors of the fall of 1959 found themselves back in their home town ready to take over the reins of leadership in our new formed clubs and activities. Thus will our Senior year come to a close, in a whirl of activities, the delight of boy and girl hearts. All of us will be preparing for another stepping stone in Life. But amid all this bustle, there will be a thought which repeatedly asserts itself, one that brings a blue in our happiness, We are leaving A.H.S. So with many a backward look at the school-life busily continuing beneath the banners of Red and White, we say Adieu, and turn away, eager to take our part in Life. SENIORS HELEN KELLY Comm. GLADYS GARDNER. Allagash High School Lads started their first Basketball season with 15 players, 8-Varsity and 6-Jay Vees. The first game which was played with Wallagrass, found Allagash getting its feet on the ground and suffer- ing a defeat, however, the spirit of the game caught on to the players and Eagle Lake fell to the Allagash Lads in their following game. It was at this point that Basketball reached fever pitch at the Allagash, and we wish to thank all parents, cheerleaders, school children, etc. for their loyal support during the season.
