Often, they rush by us so fast we hardly knew they occurred. It’s only when they’re gone that we recall them with fondness and their true value becomes apparent. Life for students at All Saints is more than attending classes, taking tests and doing home work. It also includes such things as serving on the Student Council, helping others through Community Service, enjoying interesting hob- bies, and painting Halloween windows. Typist Kathy Lewandowski prepares an article for the paper as advisor Mr. Tom Birch checks for errors. 32 Student Life The Saint Begins Another Decade Of Recording All Saints’ History 1. Jeff Karomol checks Master layout for possible correction. 2. Mary Ann Mahoney and Judy Jankowski deserve much of the credit for typing the Yearbook copy. 3. Arranging photos and copy on the layouts challenged the collective minds of Rick Rosinski, Ken Jasinski and Paul Roeske. 4. After 4 months Steve Spatz finally learned how to use the photo cropper. 5. Layout designs are checked against those of last year by Hollis Mayhew, Mary Switala, and Judy Wisniewski. 6. Dave MacDonald and Dave Yagiela were two of the hard- working photographers who contributed much to the pho- tographic highlights of the yearbook. 7. Two more members of the photography staff, Rosa Gomez and Jeanine Seward enjoy a creative moment in the darkroom. Student Life 33 Student Council 1. Personally, Student Council has been a learning experience for me, a sort of “leadership workshop” where I’ve learned to deal with people and their personalities and problems. I’ve learned when to compromise and when to take a firm position on issues. Overall, I think Student Council is for people who are willing to learn, work, and cooperate. Mark Matuszewski. 1. Student Life 35 Unique Hobbies Occupy Spare Moments Of Imaginative All Saints Students What do students do with their spare time? What interests people other than the typical athletic and extracurricular activities? Do hob- bies and other such pasttimes reveal anything about the personalities of those who practice them? Well, a few All Saints students have some very interesting hobbies which might come as a surprise to those of us who know them only as class-mates or friends. The six students on these pages certainly have some intriguing pasttimes! What do you do with your spare moments? 1. Model Aircraft hobbyist Dave Yagiela gets plenty “high” practicing with his scaled-down airplanes. 2. Freshman Ken Bisel gets all “strung-out” in Archery — a hobby demanding lots of foresight and pull. 3. Amateur Radio has seen lots of “hams” in its day, but John Swierzbin and Rick Foster seem to have devel- oped a new way to span the globe — or are they just stringing one another along? 4. No one doubts that Steve Spatz will probably get ahead some day, but who thought he’d resort to a “skull session” to do it? “Alas, poor Steven. We knew him well.” 5. Could this be Clint Eastwood? James Bond? No, it’s just dead-eye Dave MacDonald setting his sights on an- other marksman award. (Or maybe he’s getting ready for the first annual student-faculty shoot-out!) (Not pictured — Brian Bellor). 38 Student Life The 1979-1980 Forensic Team competed in three Invitational tournaments this year. For the first time All Saints co-hosted a tournament with Garber High school. There were 33 schools involved in the Tournament, and All Saints placed 8th in the competition. The Team also participated at Gaylord and Standish-Sterling meets. Since starting at All Saints the Foren- sics Team has annually sent a student to the State Finals at Ann Arbor. The future contin- ues to look bright for the Team. 1 The “Dramatic Duo” of Mary Switala and Mark Matuszewski rehearse a moving passage from their dramatic reading. 2. Steve Spatz finds the Forensics Team a critical audience as he practices his Informative Speech. 3. Storytelling makes use of more than one’s voice, as Renee Banaszak demonstrates in this moment of frozen action. 4. Angie Hash has the Forensics Team chuckling at her Humorous Reading selection. 5. Student Life 39 Students Reveal Talent Through Visual And Performing Arts Puppet Troupe Captures Imagination Of Young And Old Students Find “Large” Rewards Through “Miniature” Acting 1. Looks like there is as much action behind the scenes as there is in front. 2. The “cast” of an All Saints Puppet Troupe production challenges the direction of co-directors Mrs. Sue Roznowski and Mr. John Skoor. 3. Puppet sets are crafted by John Brandow and Jim Bodric. 4. Student Life 41 State Championships For Varsity Cheerleading Pom Pon Squads Cheerleaders Claim 1st Place At CMU State Championships The long, hard road to the State Champion- ship began with practice early in June. At the SVSC Cheerleading Camp, the Squad placed 1st, which qualified them for the USCA Grand National competition. When the Grand National Competion took place, the squad placed 7th out of 116 entries. The cheerleaders then came closer to State Championship by placing 3rd at the Piston’s Basketball Game at the Pontiac Silverdome in December. Qualification for State Cham- pionship was achieved when the squad cap- tured 1st Place at the Regionals in Harrison, paving the way for their victory at CMU. 42 Student Life Eisenhower High School Site Of State Championship For Pom Pon Squad The State Championship beckoned to the Pom Pon Squad as they began practicing shortly after school closed in June. In July the Pom Pon girls competed at SVSC Badgerette Pom Pon Camp, winning a 2nd Place for their Originality Routine and a 3rd Place overall. On February 9th the Squad took 1st Place, Class B, State Championship at Eisenhower High School. Now the Squad will begin practicing for competition on March 5th at the Pontiac Silverdome, hoping to qualify for one of four places to compete March 26 at the Detroit Piston’s Basketball Game, also at the Silverdome.
