Intramurals was an athletic program opened to all students who had fifth or sixth lunch period at Alisal. Many times the activities were co-ed and women seemed to derive as much pleasure out of volleyball and badminton as some of the men did. For instance, the championship volleyball team, the Senior Spikers of '71', consisted of three females and three males. Also, there were several girls' badminton teams entered in competition. Tournaments were held for most sports, and, in the volleyball section, the champions were Kathy Souza, Debbie Shirrel, Linda Teague, Glen Ryburn, Ed Begun and Jim Moree. A trophy was presented to the winning team upon defeating the fifth period champs headed by Jeff Lear. Badminton found Randy Geissler as singles champion, having defeated Glen Ryburn in the finals. Doubles champions were Randy Geissler and Danny Cunningham. Coach Mortenson, co-ordinator of the intramural program, deserves many thanks for a job well done.
