The Central Coast Section All-Tournament team consisted of Rick Hile, Mitty, Mark Haddan, Alisal, Rick Robertson, Mitty, Mark Hoff, Alisal, Dan Cunningham, Alisalg and Gary Hoffman, Fremont. sas ? I - 1- TROJA s ARE ces CHAMPS Alisal hoopsters dominated Central Coast Section tournament play this year as they swept victories over Leland High, 86-65, and Mitty High, 57-55. Coach Cork Haddan finished his third season as basketball coach at :Xlisal by producing a winning Varsity combination which surpassed all other previous endeavors for Alisal as well as the entire M. KL. The All-Tournament team found three members of the Alisal squad on the seven man contingent. Selected to the All-CCS team for the second year in a row, Mark Haddan was the only junior on the honor squad. Top honors of the tournament went to 6'l0,' senior Danny Cunningham as he landed a berth on the honor team as well as being named Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Rounding out the selections from Alisal was senior guard Mark Huff. Leland, entering the tournament with a 21-4 seasonal mark, was the first victim of Alisal's devastating cage attack. A tough encounter, the Leland basketballers put forth a courageouseffort, but were no match for Haddan, Huff, Cunningham, Steve jaurique, Dave Kendricks, and Robert Higgins. Ar the end of regulation play, the scoreboard showed an Alisal victory, 86-65. The second game paired the winner of the Fremont-Mitty game against the victorious Trojans. With Mitty' defeating Fremont 63- 54, Alisal knew that their challengers from the tough West Catholic League would be no push-over. Saturday night saw the tip-off at 8:30 in the Stanford Maples Pavilion going to Mitty High. This was the last time in the game in which Mitty had absolute possession of the game. With the game in Alisal hands, Mitty posed a constant threat pushing the heated battle into several ties, even as late as the final seconds of the fourth quarter. But the savior of the night was Robert Higgins who constantly drew fouls from the opposing team players and calmly deposited the charity throws with amazing ease. With the final showing 59-57 in favor al Alisal, the nets were unstrung and the team, a bit frenzied, took up the familiar chant of 'fWe're number one! n 22

Intramurals was an athletic program opened to all students who had fifth or sixth lunch period at Alisal. Many times the activities were co-ed and women seemed to derive as much pleasure out of volleyball and badminton as some of the men did. For instance, the championship volleyball team, the Senior Spikers of '71', consisted of three females and three males. Also, there were several girls' badminton teams entered in competition. Tournaments were held for most sports, and, in the volleyball section, the champions were Kathy Souza, Debbie Shirrel, Linda Teague, Glen Ryburn, Ed Begun and Jim Moree. A trophy was presented to the winning team upon defeating the fifth period champs headed by Jeff Lear. Badminton found Randy Geissler as singles champion, having defeated Glen Ryburn in the finals. Doubles champions were Randy Geissler and Danny Cunningham. Coach Mortenson, co-ordinator of the intramural program, deserves many thanks for a job well done.
