INDUSTRIAL TRADE DEP RTMENT MR. EDWIN W. FRENCH, industrial department head, pauses while checking attendance records for his four vocational shops, all situated on the hill overlooking the main high school huilding. Aliquippa Highs industrial trade department offers comprehensive courses that prepare stu- dents for apprenticeships in four trades: electri- cal, machine. carpentry and auto mechanics. Stu- dents enrolled in these courses receive trade- practice instruction for three hours each day. For the remainder of the school day, the boys study regular academic subjects which include English. history, math. science and other courses of their choice. These are wood-Working, metal- working and mechanical drawing, all on a five-period per week basis. Students enrolled in the general course often choose to major in one of the industrial arts, while others take the courses as electives. For several students a highlight of the year is the preparation of projects for display in local business establishments and entry in the Ford Motor Company's annual Industrial Arts Fair. kills in creative arts open MR.
