Good Luclef Mm. Bwigsbwm , . The 1967 Torch Staff dedicates this yearbook to a man who has given young people of Martinez nearly forty years of service. He began his teaching career at Alhambra in 1928, Transferred to Martinez Junior High, anal returned to Alhambra in 1960. He has been active in youth and adult organizations, including Sea Scouts, DeMolay, Kiwanis Club, Masonic Lodge, and the Eastern Stars, Whether volun- teering his time, or iust doing his iob, he conscientiously strives to better his community. Professionally, he has served as president of the Contra Costa Education Association, and the Martinez Education Association. As a member of the Execu- tive Board of the California Teacher's Association, he was a key man in setting up the present California Teacher's Retirement System. He was appointed by the Governor to the State Board of Education, and served in this capacity for three terms. Because of his long record of service to youth and to his community, and because of his genuine concern for Alhambra students, the staff is proud to dedicate this 1967 Torch to Mr. Herbert F. Bergstrom.
