A START OF S METI-II G W he 1987-1988 year was the start of many new things for Alham- bra and its population of 2300. Through its doors, Alhamra wel- comed many new students and its new principal, Dr. A. David Briggs. Many new facilities have been added in the 900 building to help accommo- date the new magnet program, the Cen- ter for Lifetime Activities and Sports Services or CLASS. Alhambra is one of only four schools in the country to offer such a program. This year athletes and club members were required to have grade checks ev- ery three weeks. If the student was not passing at least five subjects, he or she was suspended from the sport or club until the next grade check. As a district wide policy to help pre- vent absences, Alhambra became a closed campus for the first time in its history. For the new schedule, every class was shortened by five minutes thus allow- ing time before school for KKIS. The KKIS period, also known as Keep Kids in School, was developed to give stu- dents an opportunity to receive extra help from their teachers. Lunches are shortened to thirty-five minutes. Therefore, many new snack stands were opened around campus to help accom- modate all the students due to closed campus. With the new programs such as KKIS, OBE, EEI, CLASS implemented and new faces seen on the faculty staff and a new principal, this was most cer- tainly a year that was A START OF SOMETHING NEW!
