During summer vacation, the fall group of Alhambra High School Commissioners began plans for KATZ LARSON lifting Alhambra Highs face. STILLWAGON CARRUTHERS Upon entering school, quaking freshmen, who are usually initiated by a ducking in the fish pond, found a rather dry reception, for the dark, muddy pond had been converted into a garden of geraniums. The Com- mission also planned a series of successful after-school dances, but the climax of school events was reached when Commissioner General fim Stevens, Com- missioner of Forensics lack Katz, Commissioner of Finance Lorraine Wennez', Commissioner of Boys Tom Stanton, Commissioner of Girls Eveleen Winter'- bottom, and Commissioner of Literature La Dorna Larson, sponsored a semi- formal dance last Ianuary. Ever faithful and always ready to lend counsel was A. Ewing Konold, Commission Adviser, It was Mr. Konold who started the second' commission on its biggest program-reorganization of clubs. i In February a second group of engineers carried on construction. They sponsored a Beard Growing contest and a Hello Neighbor Day. Later, the Commission took on a helper. The newly-elected Commissioner of Clubs lack Higgins, was elected to head all club presidents and work out club activities. The Commissioners were rewarded when the Summer Class of '41 honored them with a Spring Dance. The second group of Commissioners were Commissioner General lack Katz: Commissioner of Athletics, Tom Putman: Commissioner of Finance, Fred Gough: Assistant Commissioner of Literature, Bernadine Hatch. La Dorna Larson, Eueleen Winterbottom and Tom Stanton retained their previous positions. 20

What was the final program? A remodeled patio, gardens, and the biggest construction of all--the Court of the lVIoors. just as the countries along the highway have Contributed to its progress, so have the service clubs donatd to campus improvements. W h e n Brick Day was prof claimed, each student brought a brick for the Court of the lVloors. Volunteer students and the biology classes served as Construction workers with Miss Er- wine acting as head en- gineer.
