OFFICE STAFF--Mr. Allen, Miss Rivers, Mr. Cornell. X. ' HARVEY H. CORNELL Superintendent of Schools Central State College University of Wisconsin Senior Class Advisor Hobbies--Hunting, Fishing, Fixing Things Superintendent? Message 1876 - 1905 Years may come and years may go. As they pass, they are marked by a series of milestones as is noted in the album of our Alma Mater. Starting as a small two story brick building of eight rooms in 1876 it was remodeled into a building about three times as large in 1905, This first high school was torn down to make way for the original part of the present building in 1935. This new build- ing also had growing pains and with the addition of 1955 we were provided with a school building consisting of thirty five teaching stations, a cafeteria, a library, a gymnasium, an auditorium, and efficient shops and laboratories. As the school grew the facilities were improved and the program enriched. An effort has been made to provide an adequate program for the college bound student, for the student planning a technical or en- gineering car eer, or a terminal education for the stu- dent not seeking further study, - 1955 - 7 Our Alma Mater, organized as a three year high school in 1886, became a four year high school in 1894, The original charter establishingtheAlgoma High School was granted on March 1, 1888, Since the school began in 1886, gr aduating classes have ranged in size from none in several early years to 114 in 1961 with a total of 3,433 seniors passing through the school in the seventy years ofits existence, While these numbers are not great, the total is nearly as large as our city's population and the edu- cational impact is immeasurable, Among these gradu- ates we find people in many professions, occupations. and industries. Yes, doctors and dentists, judges and lawyers, engineers, teachers, clergymen, nurses, and other artisans are proud to claim Algoma High School as their Alma Mater. And we are proud to have had them as students.
