HlSTORY Alfred State College was founded in 7908 as a State School of Agriculture by an act of the State Legislature. Regular classes began in 7909. ln 7948, the College became one of the original units of the State University of New York,' in 795 7, the College was authorized by the State University to award the associate degree to its graduates. ALFRED CAMPUS Consists of 65 buildings on a 75 0-acre hillside location. Most buildings are part of a S42 million campus expansion program which began in 7964. Near the main campus is a farm complex, horticulture center and academic buildings for specialized instruction in addition to a ski slope and lake-lodge for social and athletic events. Several housing and dining facilities are included on campus. LOCATION The College is located in rural Alfreof N. K, a scenic community with a permanent population of about 7,700 and a student population of more than 5, 000. Main campus is 75 miles from the Pennsylvania border: 75 miles south of Rochesten and 90 miles southeast of Buffalo. The Colleges School of Vocational Studies is located on a separate campus in nearby Wellsville, N. K Alfred University a neighbor of Alfred State College, is a private four-year institution offering a wide range of liberal arts and professional programs leading to baccalaureate and graduate degrees. The State University College of Ceramics is an integral part of Alfred University WELLSVlLLE CAMPUS Located on a six-acre campus and consists of 20 buildings, with a blend of traditional and contemporary structures. Students housing is available within walking distance from campus: dining facilities also available on campus. Bare parking lots Empty Dining halls.
