Girls Sports Physical education is one of the newest additions to the curriculum for women at Alfred. The program was indoctrined in nineteen fifty-four for freshmen, under the direction of Miss Pauline Thomas. During the year. the women receive instruction in riding, archery, basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis and golf. An intramural program was organized for all women on campus, consisting of basketball, volleyball, softball and tennis. Skilled teams for different sports are formed through- out the year to participate in play days. Horseback riding became spotlighted this year with the organization of a riding club, known as the Hoof- beats.
