THE BULLDOG REVIEW Mrs. N. Herrington, Star Teacher Umar al-Qadi, Star Student When the 1982 Golden Bulldog Yearbook was brought to the school it was, as always, an excellent yearbook, but the Annual Staff felt something lacking and cast about for a solution to the age-old question: What about spring events? In the 1983 Golden Bulldog the staff presented its answer — The Bulldog Review — a section devoted to coverage of spring and summer events that had never before gained notice. The 1984 Bulldog Re- view's purpose is the same — to give recognition to those feature events that so richly deserve it. The first of these events to be presented is the Star Stu- dent and Teacher Awards. The Star Student is the highest scoring senior on the Scholastic Aptitude Test. This stu- dent in turn chooses a teacher he feels has helped and inspired him the most throughout his four high school years. We are happy to congratulate Umar al-Qadi and Mrs. Herrington on this memorable honor. 22

HOMECOMING PUNK ROCK DAY Beach High School's atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as Homecoming Week 1983 descended upon the school. Each day brought a host of activities — singing the Alma Mater, decorating homeroom doors, “switching up with fellow students, and dressing as punk rockers — to boost the spirit of the student body. Shown on the opposite page are students who participated in Switch-Up Day by dressing as totally opposite people. On this page, students who participated in Punk Rock Day are shown in the apparel of followers of a re- cent music craze. 21

In the area of science, many students deserve recognition for their entrees in the Science Fair and for other outstanding accomplishments. Halimah al-Qadi was the recipient of a Special Microbiology Award granted in honor of her exceptional science project. Other winners were in Research Paper Competition. Parul Chandra — 3rd place; Monique Johnson — 2nd place; Umar al-Qadi — 1st place; Monica Sams — 1st Place; and Dawn Gibson — 1st Place. For projects entered, Halimah al-Qadi and Dawn Gibson won 1st Place ribbons and Karen Cowart and Michael Coffe both received 2nd Place ribbons. Steve Chapman also received a blue ribbon for his project, but in addition, was awarded an Air Force Aviation Award. On the state level Halimah al-Qadi received a white ribbon and Dawn Gibson an honorable mention. Steve Brightweil has had the privilage of being the Key Club Governor, which entails leading as well as supervising all Key Clubs in the State of Georgia, this past year. This office holds a great deal of authority and glory, but with it comes the overwhelm- ing responsibility and the hours of hard work which are completed with unbridled devo- tion. Steve has been an active member in the Beach High Key Club since ninth grade. A cluster of plaque awards, certificates, tro- phies, ribbons, and other academic para- phernalia won by various Beach High Stu- dents, displays the ambition and superior drive for excellence that is instilled within many of our student body. 23
