Science Fair Last years winners of the Dis- trict Science Fair were: Reggie Brown — Grand Prize winner, Steve Chapman — Blue ribbon — Physics, Dawn Gibson — Blue ribbon — Medicine, Umar Al-Qadi, Sangeeta Chandra, Harry Chow and Walton Liles, all received second place rib- bons. Reggie's win of the grand prize enabled him and Mr. Bland to attend the International Science Fair in Houston in May. Michael Bolden Award The Michael Bolden Award is given annually to two students at Beach High who have promoted racial harmony and understanding. The 1981-1982 recipi- ents were Vaneisa Davis and Henry Chow. Climbing The Ladder Of Excellence One of the elite students at Beach who has proven to be outstanding is Monica Sams. Monica is a truly extraordinary young lady in that she obtained numerous honors during her sophomore year. Foremost, Monica was designated a finalist in the Governors Honors Program in the field of Communications. Proving herself as a great orator, she was named a finalist at the state level of the Georgia District Optimist Club Oratorical Contest. She was also the first re- cipient of the Miss Sandra L. Vick Good Citi- zenship Award for her service in school and in the community. She placed first in the first Beach High School Birthday Essay Contest. We congratulate you Monica D. U.G.A. Certificate Of Merit To receive the University of Georgia Certificate of Merit, a student must maintain a 3.5 grade point average through out his junior year. These juniors from the 81-82 school year were Laura Davis, Tammy Bostick, Tom Kaighin, Elliott Ferguson, Tina Tillman, Umar Al-Qadi, Marian Robbins, and Parul Chandra. The Governor's Honors Program is a program which awards scholastic achievements to those students who have exhibited academic excellence and interest in certain fields during their tenth or eleventh grade year. They attend a six-week summer program at a Georgia college campus where they pursue their chosen field and other interest areas. The 1982 finalists were: Umar Al-Qadi — Social Sciences, Marian Robbins — Mathematics, Haliman Al-Qadi — Dance, and Monica Sams — Communications. The alternates were: Jennie Ingram — Social Sciences, Lisa Sterling — Music, Parul Chandra — Mathematics.
