9 ✓ V 1983 GOLDEN BULLDOG ALFRED ELY BEACH SAVANNAH, GEORGIA 31405 VOLUME XXXIII WANDA KING, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF I'm So Glad We Had This is what we do . . When all is said and done, spirit is the element that makes a school complete. Without it little can be accom- plished, but when it is present in abundant quantities as is the case at Beach High, there is no limit to what can be achieved. The student body at Beach is known for its spirit and undying support for the school. At pep rallies, games, and even on a normal school days you can detect the under current of spirited feelings that abound within our students. 4 Flag gaurd spirit This Time Together. 5 Just To Have A Laugh Or Sing A Song 7 Seems We Just Get Started And Before You Know It Study is a mandatory task in which a student becomes aware of the goals he expects to main- tain in life. At Beach High, study is an everyday happening for most. Some students may just get started when, before they know it, the precious opportuni- ty to take their work seriously has slipped away. The next pages are devoted to those con- scientious students who, be- cause of hard work and dedica- tion, are the leaders of tomor- row. 9 Comes The Time We Have To Say So Long 11 There's A Time We Put 12 Aside For Dreamin Seven years ago Mr. Richard Russell Mole had a dream. Seven years later his dream has come true. Mr. Mole has continued the unification among the study body and the staff. During Mr. Mole's administration many changes have been made. The auditorium and the gym have been completely renovated, the classrooms and hallways have been retiled, and a delightful Annex Library has been built. Mr. Mole currently is striving for the continuous interest of students in academic studies, sportmanship, and leadership abilities. He is also encouraging better grades on national standardized tests. Yes, Mr. Mole, your dream has come true. You have made this school what it is today. Your motivation to the student body to do its very best is a goal for which we should all strive. Chief , the student body salutes you. 13 And A Time For Things Atlas holding the weight of the school. Look ma, no cavities. Too much homework makes one weary 1 get straight A's in lunch. You Have To Do Who asked you? The students here at Beach are studious and fastidious, yet they are still able to take time to have a bit of fun. When the pressures of school work and extra-curricu- lar activities reach a climax, it is good to know that we may find a bit of comfort in frivolity. Shown on these pages are students who relax between classes and dem- onstrate “Bulldog fun. 15 1 knew you couldn't resist. Would you like to buy some doughnuts. But The Time I Like The Best Is Any Evenin' I Can Spend A Moment Here With You. 'Change 'Cause Nothing Stays The Same “Ease On Down The Road Among the many activities of the week, the Homecoming Motorcade was an event full of excitement and creativity. Students prepared their entries for the judging while spectators eagerly looked on. As the entries lined up the judging took place, after which two deserving first place winners were chosen: The VICA Club for its entry Eat 'em Up Dawgs and The JCL Club with its entry The Bite Is Mightier Than The Sting. f When The Time Comes The homecoming spirit perme- ates Beach High School. Every year a floodgate opens to send forth colossal waves. Even though the spirit invades all of our existences, we must continue to labor unceasingly. Still, we find time to decorate our cars, and display a little of that Beach High Spirit. Lawyer Maclver presents his defense to the juniors. Being spirited Let me tell you one more time. First the bulldog, then . . . And F m Feeling Lonely Even the weight of the world can't keep me warm!1 21 It's lonely at the top. Monica is a truly extraordinary young lady in that she obtained numerous honors during her sophomore year. Foremost, Monica was designated a finalist in the Governors Honors Program in the field of Communications. Proving herself as a great orator, she was named a finalist at the state level of the Georgia District Optimist Club Oratorical Contest. She was also the first re- cipient of the Miss Sandra L. Vick Good Citi- zenship Award for her service in school and in the community. She placed first in the first Beach High School Birthday Essay Contest. We congratulate you Monica D. Sams for your many noteworthy achievements. May you continue to excel in your future endeavors. cal contest. 23 U.G.A. Certificate Of Merit To receive the University of Georgia Certificate of Merit, a student must maintain a 3.5 grade point average through out his junior year. These juniors from the 81-82 school year were Laura Davis, Tammy Bostick, Tom Kaighin, Elliott Ferguson, Tina Tillman, Umar Al-Qadi, Marian Robbins, and Parul Chandra. The Governor's Honors Program is a program which awards scholastic achievements to those students who have exhibited academic excellence and interest in certain fields during their tenth or eleventh grade year. They attend a six-week summer program at a Georgia college campus where they pursue their chosen field and other interest areas. The 1982 finalists were: Umar Al-Qadi — Social Sciences, Marian Robbins — Mathematics, Haliman Al-Qadi — Dance, and Monica Sams — Communications. The alternates were: Jennie Ingram — Social Sciences, Lisa Sterling — Music, Parul Chandra — Mathematics. A Starring Duo The Star Student from A.E. Beach High School is the senior receiving the highest score on the Scholastic Apti- tude Test. Last year Reggie Brown was selected as the Star Student and he chose Ms. Marilyn Tuten as his Star Teacher. The Math-A-Thon Last year. Alpha Psi Omega held a Math-a-thon to benefit the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. On Friday, March 5, 1982, over 50 participants took the Math-a-thon test at the sixth period. The number of correct answers scored determined the amount of money collected from the persons who pledged money for each correct answer. Over $1000.00 was raised both in pledges and donations. On Saturday, May 1, 1982, the members of Alpha Psi Omega appeared on the St. Jude Telethon on WTOC. They were then honored at a function given by the Beta Sigma chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International. Seven girls received ESA International Youth Awards for their outstanding con- tributions to their community, school, and fellow men. They were Jennie Ingram — chairman, Monica Sams — co-chairman, Lisa Sterling, Marcey Doloff, Donna Wilson, Monique Johnson, and Denise Baker. Their advisor received the DIANA award in recogni- tion of her distinguished service towards others. A gold plaque, dedicated to the memory of Miss Sandra L. Vick, was embedded in the walls of St. Jude Hospital because of the amount of money donated. The top score in the Math-a-thon was Umar Al-Qadi, and the top money raisers were Tammy Moseley and Joan Hafey. 25 WHEREAS: education is •: motivation and a freeing characteristic of any soe i . •: ind WHEREAS: this facto: prnmptod the beginning of a private school known as tiv? B :.cl. High Institute; and WHEREAS: this institution, no longer a part of the private educational 'em, contributed substantially to the enhancement l.i-i i. n Iightenment of the Black community; and WHEREAS: Beach High School is an integral part of the Chatham- Savannah Pub;ic School System where it provides educational opportunities for all children; and WHEREAS: this educational institution was founded one hundred and eighteen years ago. NOW, THEREFORE, I, John R. Rousakis, Mayor of the City of Savannah, in recognition of the many years of educational training provided by this fine institution, do hereby proclaim the month of February, 1982, as: ALFRED E. BEACH HIGH SCHOOL MONTH in Savannah, and urge all citizens of this community to pay tribute to those educators, community leaders, and students who have perpetuated the goals of this school since its founding. Happy Birthday To You . . . Alfred Ely Beach High School celebrated its birthday for the first time last year. After much planning, and preparation, this historic institution culminated weeks of effort with a program on February 18, 1982. The idea for a birthday celebration originated with our principal, Mr. Richard Mole. Because Mr. Mole is an alumnus of Beach High, his interest in the school's history was deeply rooted. After preliminary research by the Sports Staff of the Beacon, Mr. Mole asked the Newspaper Staff to further research the history of our great school. The Newspaper Staff then compiled information, contacted former graduates and solicited student involvement by sponsoring an essay contest. Also compiling information were Becky Ingram, Vicky Hall, and Sonya Pleasant. The theme, We have sailed the rough seas of the past. Beach High, where do we go from here? proved to be an excellent focal point for the educational and entertaining program. At the start of the program Monica Sams served as mistress of ceremonies and Steve Brightwell gave the inspiration. After the introduction by Leslie Brown, Dr. Clifford Hardwick, a former graduate of Beach gave an inspiring speech highlighting our school's glorious history and its hopeful future. Brian Silverman presented from the city of Savannah, a document proclaiming February as A.E. Beach High School Month. The birthday celebration not only gave the students a hope for our school's future, but it also provided a reason for pride in our school's history. Let us strive to make both the pride and the hope remain forever alive. A True Champion Last year at the JCL State Convention, Henry Chow was a recipient of the Lily B. Hamilton Scholarship. This scholarship is award annually to two or three stu- dents from Georgia who have contributed the most to the efforts of the GJCL in their four years of high school. While at the convention, Henry won five first place ribbons. These were in the field of mottos, and literature tests, pencil drawings, posters, and maps. Henry has certainly proven that he is a true champion in every aspect of the phrase. Henderson Formey Interim Superintendent . The president of the school system is leader, educator, wielder of power; he is also officeholder, caretaker, inheritor, consensus seeker, persuader. But his is mostly the mediator. — The Godkin Lectures at Havard University, 1963 Mr. Henderson E. Formey was appointed Interim Superintendent of Schools when Dr. Sylvester Rains left Savannah. Mr. Formey kept the Chatham County Public School System running efficiently and productively for the months until a new superintendent could be found. As Interim Superintendent, Mr. Formey is in charge of the city's educational program. He works with the school board, school administrators, parents and students. Mr. Formey and his assistants well represent the downtown administration. 30 Chief Mole A high school could not function properly without an outstanding principal. Fortunately, Beach High has this principal. He is Mr. Richard Russell Mole. Mr. Mole's activities range from monitoring the halls to communicating with the Board of Education. Mr. Mole is the voice of our school who is concerned with every aspect of our daily strides toward maturity. He is in charge of the instructional program and the custodial staff, as well as public relations with parents and the central office. Mr. Mole is concerned with the welfare of Beach High's student and administrative bodies. One of his philos- ophies is United we stand, divided we fall. Without this unity Beach High would not have any of the quali- ties it has today under the leadership of our principal, Mr. Mole. 31 Assistant Principals Beach High has three fine Assistant Principals working under the direction of Mr. Mole. They are Mr. Blake, Mr. Pandtle, and Mr. Wright. Their various activities help Mr. Mole with the continuing charge of the school. Mr. Blake makes out all the reports for the year, a report every twenty days; handles all the books, invoices, and purchase orders; and he is also in charge of the lunch program. Mr. Blake feels that the staff works very close with the students, and is very efficient. Mr. Pandtle monitors students on campus, takes disci- plinary actions, and assists Mr. Mole with duties that are necessary. He is proud of the warmth ad good citizenship of the students, and he feels that Beach has some of the nicest people anywhere. Mr. Wright is in charge of taking disciplinary actions toward students, and is in charge of substitute teachers. Mr. Wright feels that Beach is a good school and that we have made many improvements. Mr. Wright has been a Beach High Bulldog for seven years. 32 Teacher Of The Year Mrs. Matilda B. Heath Having excellence recognized by one's colleagues is a prestigious honor enjoyed by a select few. The instructors here at Beach have chosen Mrs. Matilda B. Heath as the 1982-1983 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Heath is an 18-year veteran of the teaching profession. Mrs. Heath has been the recipient of serveral honors in this vocation. She is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, an honorary educational fraternity. Mrs. Heath was chairperson of the social studies department for seven years and was elected Teacher of the Year in 1973-1974. Mrs. Heath was also designated STAR Teacher of 1980-1981. Not only is Mrs. Heath a brilliant teacher, but she is also the mainstay of the Annual Staff, having served as advisor for several years. It is here that the patience and dedication indicative of a great educator shine through, for the produc- tion of a yearbook is a difficult and sometimes wearisome task. Mrs. Heath must have her share of leisure time and she enjoys spending it with her only daugh- ter, Anissa. During a free moment in the school day, Mrs. Heath might be found tending her plants which is her favorite hobby. Great teachers are like great art — they should be savored, appreciated and cherished. In Mrs. Ma- tilda B. Heath, Beach High School has found a priceless treasure. 34 Dedication Mrs. Essie S. Johnson The 1983 Golden Bulldog is dedicated to a special person who has contributed much to our school, its faculty and its students. This year the annual is dedicated to Mrs. Essie Johnson, a faculty member who is the very essence of school spirit. Mrs. Johnson harbors contagious zeal that infects virtually everyone she comes in contact with, and she has been instrumental in boosting school morale. The Annual Staff is proud to dedicate this book to one who has given so much to all of us at Beach High. 35 Faculty And Staff Mrs. A. Aikens Miss Kathy Andrews Mr. Randall Bacon Mrs. W.L. Banks Eng. Wood U.S. History, I, II In all our efforts for education — in providing adequate schools, research, and study — we must never lose sight of the very heart of education: good teaching itself. Good teachers do not just happen. They are the product of the highest personal moti- vation, encouraged and helped in their work by adequate salaries and the respect, support, good will of their neighbors. The quality of American teach- ing has never been better. But the rewards for too many teachers are not commensurate with their work and their role in American life. It is my ear- nest hope that along with progress in other aspects of education, the states and communities will give increasing attention to this tap-root of all education — good teachers, and hence good teaching. I think I'd better talk to this ump. The Lady Bulldogs softball team was successful not only in winning but in the pride and dignity that they carried. They really found themselves after the game when they lost 1-2. They just don't wear that uniform to be wearing it. They wear it with the thought that they are going to win. They finished the season with a record of 7-6 and in 5th place. 123 Everybody get down. V a r s • i t y B 0 t b a 1 1 Cheryl Davis Edna Gadson Deidre Johnson LaTonya Jenkins Elaine Anthony Contessa Tolbert Melvaree Davis Hazel Reynolds Jackie Moore The Lady Bulldogs met much success in recent years because of the dedication of the players and coaches. They have always been well respected in the field of high school basketball, but the Lady Bulldogs have now achieved greatness. In 1980-81 they went to the play-offs and were region champions. They advanced to the state semi-finals in Macon, and, last year, their record was 17-4. Nineteen eighty-two was the first year the lady Bulldogs participated in the annual Joe Greene Holiday Classics (December 17 and 18), which they won. Lolisa Berry and Stephanie Lewis were named to the All-tournament Team. Lolisa also received the Most Valuable player Award. Coaches Ronald Booker and Arbro Williams have devoted much time and patience to making the Lady Bulldogs one of the best high school teams in the state. Coach Booker attributes the team's success to three principles: dedication, loyalty, and pride. With ideals like these it is no wonder that the Lady Bulldogs continue a tradition of great achievements. Junior Varsity Girls The team members are Jaqueen Evans, Sheryl Moore, Mechelle Pendergraph, Kiwonder Davis, Debra Sloman, Celenia Dixson, Elfreda Corbett, and Latronda Smith 126 127 BULL BULLD' LoLisa g I want that rebound Coach Abro Williams ShoL.— Go to the boards 1 swing it all the way around 128 Joe Greene Classic Tournament This is the first year that the girls basketball team is being engaged in the Joe Greene Tournament. Stephanie Lewis played with almost excellence. She scored 14 points the first night and 18 the second night which lead to a total of 32 points during the tournament. Lolisa Berry played with the same intensity by adding her 14 points the first night and 16 the second night. This made a total of 30 points overall. The tournament was no test; the Lady Bulldogs eased through it with no trouble. Lolisa was selected as most valuable player and Stephanie Lewis made the All- tournament team. The mighty Bulldogs could not have succeeded without the support of the cheerleaders and the fans. 129 Basketball Squad BHS Doing Its Thing 131 sfisi Is it coming? or is it gibing As Omar would say it in your face bug. 132 Bulldogs On The Run % 134 Junior Varsity Standing L-r Terrell Cummings, Robert Deloach, Gary Robinson, Melvin Young, Derrick Brown, Chris Byrd, Woodrow Wilson kneedling L-R Stacy Young, Marvin Holmes, Darren Williams, Maurice Jacobs B a s k e t 1 1 135 1982 83 Soccer Team Standing L-R: Advisor: Mr. P. The 1982 Track Team began daily practice after school early in the year. Much time was spent exercising and competing for positions in order to prepare for the rigorous season. Attention was given to field events as well as to the previously successful relay teams to build a well rounded capable team. This team represented us well. They deserve to be champions because they never quit. They believed in themselves when a lot of people had given up hope. Beach High School. They are the em- bodiment of school spirit from August through No- vember. An aura of energy surrounds the Bulldogs as they burst onto the field, confident in their capa- bilities. The vim and vigor they possess enable them to attempt the impossible. Our players can be seen on the field enduring everything from swelter- ring temperatures to torrential rainfalls. You Can't Stop That Bulldog Spirit. The band spends many hours a week during the football season on the practice field. Under the su- pervision of Mr. Lawrence Hutchins, Jr., they are constantly striving to produce a quality perfor- mance at every game. On the field the band arouses a feeling of pride and school spirit. In addition to the half time responsibilities they can be heard reas- suring the team with shouts of How Bout Them Dogs . At the end of each game reverent strains of the Alma Mater are heard as the football players exit the field. THE MARCHING BULLDOGS Mr. Lawrence Hutchins Jr., — Director. The band is one of the largest and most important organizations of Beach High School. Comprised of approximately eighty-four musi- cians, seven majorettes, twelve flag guards, and two drum majors, the Marching Bulldogs could be con- sidered a cross section of Beach. To become a member of the band, it takes more than the ability to play an instrument. You must realize that the band symbolizes Beach High School, and in order for our school to be well represented, band members must exhibit a certain amount of discipline, control, and pride in their practice and perfor- mance. Pictured are: flag- guards, majorettes, graduating drum ma- jors; Carl Gilliard and Norris Thomas, per- cussion, woodwinds, and seniors. Have you written your copy? How are your layouts coming? These were typical questions asked of yearbook staffers almost daily. Although the staff began the year optimistically, as time progressed, it became a race to meet a deadline. The biggest obstacle the staffers faced was copy — words occupying a page. Was there no one to meet the challenge of writing interesting, exciting copy? Finally, each person listed on the staff earned credit for carving time out his hers busy days to devote to the many thankless tasks of yearbooking. The staff positions are not those of figureheads. The list represents real work for each person under often frustrating circumstances. After a prolonged inter- mission, the judges returned to dis- close their decisions. Miss Beach, 1982 took her last walk. Third runner up was Dawn Gibson. Second runner up was Chandra George. The average senior has made school his primary concern for twelve years, and, as in any occupation, there are some who work hard enough to gain a bit more recognition. A select few will spend an ad- ditional hour working on a research paper to make it let- ter-perfect, or maybe an en- tire weekend practicing that forward pass, or perhaps many hours after school plan- ning a fund raiser for a char- ity. Mr. Joe Greene, a former football and basketball coach, is a legend in his own time. His coaching career started in 1934 and ended in 1961. He was a great coach. When his team went to play a game, he had won the game before it even started. The reason was that Beach's opponent was afraid of the Bulldogs. Coach Greene took his basketball team to the Nationals six times in his coaching career. In three of the six Nationals, Beach came in 3rd place. His team won the state title again. Greene had a team that people called the Raggedy Eight . The explanation for this name is that his team had different uniforms. Each player was not in the same uniform. The school colors were blue and gold, but the team had maroon and gold uniforms. They wore long johns as warm-up pants. Mr. Greene had many successful teams that won championships. The teams were a reflection on Coach Greene. They had discipline, pride, loyalty and it .. . (became) ... a ... tradition in the teams. Mr. Walter Simmons, better known as 49 , was an all-around player at A.E. Beach. He played basketball, football, softball, and participated on the swimming team. Walter Simmons started playing with Crawford Square sandlot football team. He played center and running back for Crawford Square. One game, Coach Greene saw him playing running back. Coach thought Mr. Simmons would help the team ... greatly. So, he told him to be on the field the next day. Walter Simmons played every position on the field. His main position was center. . .. Simmons and the Beach High School teams had alot of pride whenever they played a game. They did not have an experienced team. Walter Simmons was the only experienced player that the team had. Walter Simmons was a great asset to the Beach High School family. Walter Simmons had a brother that gave Beach High School a boost on the word win . His brother played in 1939, 40, 41, and he contributed many athletic abilities to the Beach athletic program. He played football, basketball, ran track, and was on the swimming team at A.E. Beach-Cuyler. His brother's name is Frank Simmons. Frank Simmons was on the team they called the Raggedy Eight. . .. Frank Simmons and the Raggedy Eight went to These articles, and others like them, can be found in a study entitled; Alfred Ely Beach High 1864 To The Present. This study was written to commemorate the one-hundred and eighteenth birthday celebration. It consists of articles concerning the history, administrators, instructors, and students of A.E. Beach High. the National Black High School Basketball Tournament of Tuskeegee Institute. The Raggedy Eight lost by one point in the semi-finals. The score was 60 to 61. Coach Ronald Booker, coach of the lady's varsity basketball team, is another legend in Beach High's athletic history. He played from 1961 to 1964. The basketball team went to the state championship and the Black National High School Tournament in 1963 and 1964. In 1963, Beach was knocked out in the first round. But in 1964, Beach came back to place third Nationally. Coach Ronald Booker had some outstanding teammates. Marvin Jackson, a high-school All-American, All-State and All-City, played with Coach Booker in '63 and '64. Jackson played in the American Basketball Association League for the Utah Stars. He was rookie of the year during his year in the A.B.A. Another All-American, All-State, was Arnold Cole. He graduated in 1965. In '65 he led his team to another State Championship and went to the Nationals a third time straight. This year (1965) they came in third place. Cole went to college at Oral Roberts and he was the first black to attend. Eddie Jones, better Known as shine , was an All-State basketball player. He graduated in 1965, and attended Tennessee State College. He was drafted into the Armed Forces. All these players played with Coach Booker during his high school years. Booker was All-State himself, and was known as the Ice Man of the basketball team. The seventies were a transitional decade for the Bulldog basketball team. The team won a city championship in 1972 and 1975, and a region title in 1972. The seventies also saw the initiation of the Joe Greene Holliday Classic. The tournament was named after the first winning coach in the Bulldog tradition. Mr. Greene also served as Head Administrator of the school until the early 1970's. This tournament is held annually, and is co-sponsored by the Shriners. In 1979, the first year of the tournament, the Bulldogs won. The winning tradition continues in the 1980's. The lady's varsity team won the 1981, 3-AAAA region title. The A.E. The equipment which houses the chips is a most obvious addition to our Savannah Plant. Towering some 80 feet off the ground and extending 500 feet in the air, the Outside Chip Storage Facility is the first phase of a planned woodyard improvement pro- gram. The system can stack chips 65 feet high in a pile 140 feet wide and 560 feet long. It stores about a three- day supply for the mill. A visible example of continuing capital investments channeled into our area, the Outside Chip Storage project is truly “Building for the Future” of our Savannah Plant. 230 The Savannah Optimist Club Your Oratorical Contest Representative Have Fun, Learn Get Involved HiHmacnuiuc FACTOR ' 'UTHCRtZED NETWORK Curry Tailors Dry Cleaners CUSTOM TAILORING AND ALTERATIONS DELUXE DRYCLEANING SERVICE THAT’S AS GOOD AS ATARI. A Day At Beach High School 250 251 252 Our Energy Boosters The Cafeteria Staff is responsible for the excellent lunches we receive each school day. Every day they prepare meals that keep our bodies running. The following women should be saluted for their excel- lent service to the school: Mrs. L. Gil- ford, Mrs. M. Knight, Mrs. V. Stevens, Mrs. J. Swinton, Mrs. L. White, Mrs. D. Bradshaw, and Mrs. L. Flemings. 253 Through The Year All work and no play — gets an 'A' on the semester final. After the football season is over, the student body seems to think that there is nothing else to do. However, this is not true. Besides the all important studying, there are always events of some note taking place. Club initiations, service projects, special school assignments, and sports in winter and spring make up a hectic schedule for any dedicated Bulldog. After the new year begins, thoughts of graduation start to crop up. Measuring for caps and gowns, getting senior rings, and finally, graduation practice all seem to make this most important event roll around faster. Then sum- mer vacation is over and the whole cycle starts anew. 254 The EOA Christmas toy drive is successful. Just to have a laugh | about the 1983 Golden Bulldog Staff. One of life's greatest satisfactions is knowing that others find you responsible. As a result, I vowed to take the task of editor of the 1983 Golden Bulldog as an honor and as a challenge. Even rewarding activities can be an harrowing experience. There were days when I became frustrated with the whole book and wished it was all over. However, there were loyal supporters to motivate me to carry on. I wouldn't have been able to make it without Warren and Rody's crazy jokes. Just listening to them was enough to brighten the most dreary days. Then, there were the times when I was really engrossed in both my academic and annual assignments. I could ne have gotten the job done without the help of my big sister Janice Lang. Anytime there was something that needed to be done Janice was my saving grace. ecial thanks would be incomplete without mentioning the names of Wanda Williams and Becky Ingram. Their services as classes editor and associate editor, respectively, were invaluable. No editor can succeed without a good advisor. None of our work could have been accomplished without the continuous support of my second mother, Mrs. Heath. Her unfailing smile and readiness to place our deadlines before family even was above and beyond the call of duty. And last but not least, 1 give a special tribute to my mother who has always given me the love and understanding I needed when I felt I couldn't go on. The Lord really blessed me with the most wonderful mother of them all. Much pride has gone into this Golden Book Golden Bulldog Yearbook. I hope the memories of the events included will bring you much pride and joy and that you will enjoy it with the same pleasure as those of us who prepaid it. Seems we just got started and before you know it comes the time we have to say so long. fr- Wanda King Editor -in- Chief '83' H
