Golden Bulldog Alfred E. Beach 3001 Hopkins Street Savannah, Georgia 31405 2 Zke sun, peeking over the horizon as if relunctant to give us this dag, Zouches the clouds with its light, an orange glow is put in their gray. che voice of a bird from far away comes faintly to my ears, cite sounds of the dawn get louder — escape from the night and its fears. 5 Zhe dew glistens softly upon the field while clinging to the grass. J m illion tiny droplets — each has captured the sunny brass. 6 A bee on a clover collecting pollen is humming a favorite tunc. Working hard labor every day, its death will come, too soon. 7 Zhe carpet of fog is diminishing, not to leave a trace of its past. Drifting slowly across tlte ground it seems to know today is its last. 8 Zhe wind is dancing in the trees, the branches gently sway. Zhe squirrels that leap from limb to limb have no worries — only play. A splash in the pond from a frog sends ripples of ting waves, Breaking the surface for a moment, opening a world which it enslaves. Zhe voice of Qod comes through this way in the earth's own joyful singing. Jt’s Mis own way to let us know each day is a Mew Keginning. 11 12 Poem by Benji Christian The Principal Speaks 1, •JkA' I1 Coming to Beach High School as principal has been one of the greatest challenges of my career. Several aspects of the school particularly impressed me. There is a strong feeling of harmony in the student body, and this quality is very important in the successful organization of a high school. Students and teachers working together and co-operating with a new administration has aided me in my role as principal. There have been new policies and programs instituted this year; the quarter system has been new to all of us. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Senior Class and the Student Gov- ernment; especially the officers of these groups. They have worked harmoniously with the staff and the Stu- dent body and have done a tremendous job in promoting school spirit both on the athletic field and in the class- room. We have come a long way this year — there is still a lot of work to be done. There is a great potential for growth at Beach High School, and I feel that we can develop an even better school by working together as we have done this year. 14 Principals In Action 15 16 Faculty Doing Their Thing Mrs. Laura Bonds Mrs. Edna Bowens Mrs. Ola Bryan Miss. Mr. Winkler's Birthday Party” is a play which deals with the many problems of being old. Our drama department has presented the play twice this year. The first presentation was at Armstrong State College where the GTC, sponsored a play festival. The students were rated either outstand- ing. excellent, or supervisor. Of our seven participants five were rated. Angie MsManus. Jeff Prewitt and Chuck Tupper were rated superior. Karen Hoyle and Amy Shordal re- ceived excellent. The second performance was at the January PTA meeting, where they received well. Now let’s take our temperature” 38 wonder if you could come over and pronounce him dead. Snowy Day At Beach On January 18. Chatham county students were sur- prised to he dismissed from school early. Later that day almost one inch of snow fell on Savannah. Even more shocking was a second snowfall which came in less than a week. To those more accustomed to snow, a few inches might be completely ignored but at the home of the Bulldogs the snow was a sheer delight. Students were filled with absolute joy when told school was being dis- missed because of snow. 40 Elevate Your Mind Students were inspired to participate in many school wide activities. The Student Government sponsored a vari- ety of activities during homecoming week. Dances weren't held too frequently, but when they were, for whatever rea- son, they drew crowds of students. Students and teachers attended pep rallies to show school spirit. The annual staff tried to get support from students by sponsoring a year- book sale where homerooms competed in buying the most annuals. Gwen Days ami Kim West were winners of the Mr. A Mrs. ugly contest sponsored by Student Government. Mrs. Parkers 9th grade homeroom (Above) and Mr. Hepler's 12th grade homeroom (Below) were winners in the yearbook sale competition. Hustle Bulldogs Making my way from the first wing to the third floor (main building) is hard. Il isn’t unusual to see students hus- tling to class. In between the second and third peri- od class change, students are given a ten minute break in order to take care of any unfinished business. Most students use their time wisely but there are always a few loggers. These students were given a maxi- mum of five tardies. Anything beyond that would result in punishment. The usual punishment is detention after school. Alright fellows — let's keep it moving. Crowded Stairways Cooking Up A Bulldog Treat Getting ready to BURN Bulldogs Brew Mixing Magic You don't CLEAN, You don’t EAT!! Tasting the treat Media Provides Assistance The library is very helpful when in need of a quiet place to study. Miniature film projectors are used by students to gather more infor- mation. The book shelves are always a good source for research material and for pleasure. 43 '7 wonder where well go tonight. I’ll get out of this place one way or another I thought long lines only existed in the lunchroom. I wonder what's for lunch. World Affairs If were you. I would Should I apologize first or wait? Oh no! Report cards conte out tomorrow. Senior Expenses Let's show those big pretty white teeth! uoesn t matter how you add it up. it still comes out $68.99. Memories Memories are made of things: A class ring, a cap and gown, senior portraits, the senior prom and finally the big day. graduation. For many students and parents too, some of the memories of meeting the payment deadline are just as vivid today as they were when we ordered too many pictures, the most expensive ring and wondered how long before the next deadline. Some how it all seemed worth it. When we could show our rings off. when we could I swap pictures and when we could show the rest of the school what being a senior really means. 46 Hocus, Pocus You’re In Focus Lunch is a lime of great excitement. The students gather in the lunchroom and stand in line for what seems like endless minutes. Some students prefer to bring lunch from home. 48 Scheduling? ... It’s Rough The quarter changes over and what do we get? We get students with classes they didn sign up for and we get some students without classes at all. The students below are sitting pa- tiently awaiting their turn to speak 49 50 Cashier. Paula Watts, takes orders for customers at Wendy’s. Students On The Job Betsy Enright, waitress at Ponderosa makes preparations for new arrivals. DEC A. FBLA, and VIC A offer students the opportunity to work while earning credit. Seniors faced with the desire to work in order to earn money but the need to earn credit for graduation could enter the job entry program. Students in the program held jobs that generally offered good op- portunity for position advancement. 51 Marcia Reynolds assists those in need of help at the public library. eoooooooc ''! •«s! ia- t-ii L Alma Mater Beach High Alma Mater Fairest, Dearest school so true. We have experienced many changes at Beach this year, traveling day to day in a new atmosphere. These changes have brought several influ- ences or impacts on our lives. At the end of this year, all that was gained is not totally lost: it is consumed and stored in our minds. feel that the Golden Bulldog Staff has achieved its goal in captivating the many cherished moments of our 1976-77 school year. It was indded a labori- ous. but enjoying challenge that brought on worthwhile results. It is hoped that all of you are as pleased with this yearbook as we are proud. The role of editor has meant much more than one could say. It has inspired a sense of responsibility far greater than anyone can even imag- ine. My responsibilities have made me realize that Life is not having it made, its getting it made . would like to express personal gratitude to my hardworking and dedicated staff for being patient, kind, and understanding with me. I could never express my appreciation to Mrs. Heath and Mr. Mole. 7 hey are the two people who gave of their moral and physical energies to encourage me along the way. Special thanks go to my parents whose patience, understanding, encouragement and support kpt me going when many times I felt like I could go no further. I could never end this message without thanking my sister, Debra, for keeping my bed in order, even though she did a lousy job. charged twenty- five cents and asked for a raise the second week. God bless sisters! Miss Ferguson, a great big thank-you goes for always saying yes when asked to perform a service. Beach High School.
