Because of his lore of rigging, small boats, ground tackle, canvas work, mar- linspike seamanship, and preservation of materials the Boatswain's Mate is both a technician and an artist. In addition such as mooring, anchoring, towing, replenishing underway, and manning the boat davits and rescu e details, he mans the guns and musters with the landing party. A versatile, hard-working individual he rises e l h ar y, stands long watches exposed to the Mate-of-the-Watch to handling deck seamanship evolutions weather and, as Boatswain's supervises the ship's routine.
