The Social Studies Department is one of the most broadening at A.S.l-l. Now, to a teacher, to broaden means to expand a student's mind, to deepen his insights into human life, and to illuminate his con- cepts ot the world. But kids translate 'tbroadening in a different way, in a broadening class, they can get a teacher off the track and still be on the track! To talk about the price of blue jeans and Alexandria's speed limit laws may not be in regular lesson plans, but it's an excellent way to learn that creates courses both popular and instructive.
