ALE CKQ FOOTBALL OOTBALL trarnmg started early rn September A report was clrculated that Alexandrla Hlgh and George Mason would combine xn sports In a few days this went mto elfect due to the fact that George Mason alone dmd not have enough materlal for a team After the Hrst week of practlce under our coaches the prospects of the season were gray It was thought that Alexandrla would be represented w1th only a falr team formed from green materxal The schedule was a very hard one featurmg games wrth strong prep and hrgh schools but these games helped us gam the necessary exper1ence every team needs Our season opened none too successfully but a surprlse was rn store for those who followed hrgh school athletxcs Havmg recexved the name of a Hard Luck Team we started competttlon for the Dxstrxct champtonshrp Washnngton and Lee defendmg champs were expected to wm again thls season but Frederlclcsburg defeated them by a touchdown Thrs made Frederlclcs burg the favorxte to cop Our hxgh school had beaten Warrenton and lost to Washxngton and Lee Frederlclcsburg was our next game Thrs game was the chmax of our season Many were the rumors concermng the Yellow ackets and therr hlghly touted stars Alex 76 - 9 7 J ' 7 Ny , . - ' rt as - - 1 - v 1 - fr -I 97 - A
