lf Cxlhe ALECK0 Q HIGH SCHOOL PUBLICATIONS Last Lap O many three httle words may mean only the tltle of a popular song but to the 1n1t1ated few xt symbollzes hard work loyalty and school spmt Those three httle words are The Last Lap Some years ago when our race track was bemg bu1lt work was halted because of a Wrlght Mtke Houston and Bob Mldkllif unxted and mlmeographed the hrst Last Lap so called because 1t was the means by whlch the last lap of the track was to be constructed Thls paper was of the same general make up as that wlth whxch we are all famrhar cor ta1n1ng sport news jokes and mlscellaneous Items At first the publlcatlon was greeted with rldlcule and derrsron but as all good thlngs do Hourxshed and prospered Each copy sold for five cents In 1ts mfancy the nxckels were not so prevalent but we have passed the embryo stage and are now establlshed on a sounder econom1c basxs When tempted to over lndulge rn scorn of our httle paper remember the orlgm and growth of such Alecko HAT does Alecko mean? Is tt a Latm or Greek word? Surely these thoughts have passed through your mmds at least once and so to set puzzled brains at rest may we state that Alecko IS nelther Latln nor Greek but dlsttnctly Alexandr1an7 That lS Alecko IS a comblnatlon of the words Alexandrxa Echo The earhest ancestor of the ALECKO made 1ts appearance ln 1919 The edttor rn chlet was Herbert W O Meara and lf was dedlcated to the late Colonel Theodore H FlClCllI1 Sxnce the A1.EcKo s debut lf has been Hrmly estabhshed as an ofhcral organ of A H S The staff labors dthgently each year to carry out a dehmte theme along both llterary an artlstxc l1nes Last year we attempted the classlc style but our modern sophlstlcates seemed to fear the Greeks even when bearlng glfts Thls year we have spanned the centurles and have turned towards a more modern method of approach We hope that we shall merlt the approval of our readers If not all complamts wrll be recelved by the ALECKO Staff after une 30th Don t bother about Speclal Delu etv 8 .59 .
