Reverend Alexander Wilsoii was born near Belfast, Ireland, February 1, 1799. He received an excellent edu- cation in preparation for the practice of medicine and the ministry. He came to America and Baltimore in 1818 and soon thereafter to Raleigh. There he was associated with the Raleigh Male Academy. It was also there that his childhood sweetheart came and married him. He was li- censed by Orange Presbytery in 1830 and, as was customary, both taught and preached. He was associated with Vlfilliamsborough Academy before be- coming head of Caldwell Institute of Greensboro in 1835. This was moved in 1845 to Hillsboro. Dr. Wilson bought a tract of land, one mile north of the present school, and established a classical school there in 1851, where he taught with eminent success the last 16 years of his life. He was assisted by his sons, Alexander tLittle Docj, and Robert. He died July 22, 1867, and Was buried in Hawfields Church Ceme- tery. 4? -J-Qclf jwwwx
