Then we were Sophomores, and we felt as if we were really progressing. The school building had been painted and shrubbery had been set out in front of the school. That was the year that Mairzy Doats became so popular and everyone was learning to do the jitterbug . Everybody was meeting new people and joining the new clubs that had been formed by the school. Girls were still swooning over Bing and people were wondering if the war would ever end. Also if June ' 45 would ever come! But it did and next we were juniors and the girls were wearing Sloppy Joe sweaters and the boys were sporting flashy bow-ties and bright suspend- ers. We had dances and parties sponsored by the different school committees and clubs, and we were proud to show off a quite successful athletic teams. Frankie ' s crooning was all the rage, and people were humming Chickery Chick. And yet again were we wondering if the school term would ever end. And then, finally, came the great day. We were Seniors! At long last. More than one of us will remember coming out in the now traditional downpour of rain to register in school. 1 say the ' now traditional ' downpour because every year yet, when comes that certain fall day to register in school, also comes a downpour of rain! But this downpour didn ' t seem to dampen our spirits. We were Seniors! And were we proud to leave the waiting lines out in front while we marched down the hall to register in the Library! And prouder yet to march down front to take our seats in the first few rows of chairs in assembly programs, in the auditorium. We have many memories to look back upon and reflect upon silently with now and then a chuckle. Thoughtful memories, joyful memories, tearful mem- ories and proud memories. Yes, we are proud to be Seniors! Proud of the boys and girls who have been outstanding in our sports, athletics and classes. Proud to be the Senior class of ' 47 from A. P. H. S. Nancye L. Coffey
