“ Back in the middle part of August, nine returning lettermen from the 1945 football team, and about 20 new candidates, began training for the 1946 season ahead under the capable leadership of Mr. Bob Stevenson, our new coach. At the begirining of our sea- son, our coaching staff greeted another coach to help Mr. Steven- son with his work. This was Mr. Joseph Palowski. Formerly of the University of Illinois where he captained the 1941 Illini team. Mr. Palowski and Mr. Stevenson were well liked by every member of the squad and the boys fought hard for their coaches and school. With its hard hitting line, quick backfield and excellent i coaching staff, the team provided many a thrill and we were I proud of them for their never say die spirit that they carried 1 throughout the rugged and streneous season of 1946. One instant 1 of this spirit was the Nationals 19-13 win over Cradock, our tradi- tional rivals, who were favored to win 45-0, but our boys turned the tables on Cradock and came out on the right side of the score. Our team didn ' t win every game they played, they won only three, dropped five, and tied one, but their fighting spirit and good sportsmanship, that throughout the season never faltered, has indeed became a living part of all athletics of Alexander Park High School. ' The 1946 Nationals wish to leave to the 1947 Nationals the will to win, fight hard and always be a good and clean sport. The Nationals also wish to express their thanks to the student body, the swell cheerleaders and last but not least our principal Mr. Seawell. None ever failed us, Keep up the Good Work.
