Just a building with walls, windows, hallways, classrooms until students give it life with moments of anticipa- tion, triumph, failure, happiness. . . all contagious. Living, growing with- in us. . .experienced, shared moods, emotions; here for a moment, gone, remembered forever. . .VIBRATIONS VIBRATIONS OF ALEXANDER HIGH SCHOOL Vibrations VIBRATIONS OF FACULTY A salute is due to those individuals in Alexander who go out of their way to benefit the student body. They are the constant friends and protectors who encourage their pupils onward. As each semester rolls around they drift into their classrooms thrilling the awaiting school goers with new-found tidbits and excellently prepared class designs. Vibrations 5 OF SENIORS Vibrations of Seniors.. .4 years. . .36 months. . .720 days. They are the best years of our lives and now 3 months...6 weeks.4 days...one hour, graduation. . cap gown . . . tassel a speech ... a handshake . . . it's over— VIBRATIONS Vibrations 7 VIBRATIONS OF Facing the first day at Alex with anticipation, fight, excitement, eagerness to explore, to grow up. Then . . . finding out it's not so bad after getting into the swing of things. Trying to disprove the illusion that Freshmen are underdogs. Laughing, talking, giggling, making trouble . . . CONSTANTLY. Lots of blowpops . . . crocheted floppy hats . . . mysterious fire alarms that no one knows who set off, or do they? Starting out the year at FRESHMEN Alex with a bang to make sure the senior class [or any of the upperclassmen] never forget the freshmen class of '74 . . VIBRATIONS. SOPHOMORES At last we're not Freshmen, and we're one year closer to being seniors. “Finally I can get my driver's license. The one excep- tion Slave Day 75 . . . M Ford sells for $11.75 —Wow. . Mr. Henderson singsf, Hound Dog and wears a - diaper fashioned from a dish towel . . . Then there is a certain football coach who was seen by all with curlers in his 8 Vibrations UNDERCLASSMEN hair. [What a disgrace!] Most of the teachers have to be content with looking absolutely ridiculous .- 11 day long. WHAT A Day! .red Stiff . . - Trying to take life interesting, enduring I'aach school day . . . waiting it out only because there's a rumor that all sophomores become jun- iors—someday . . . VIBRA- TIONS. The mad rush for the candy store as the bell to start classes rings ... A class play We Shook the Family Tree . . . The hurried atmosphere of the cafeteria at halftime as the juniors sell refreshments . .All are the usual money making projects of the junior class. The never ending quest to get out of classes . . . committee meetings . . cleaning up the store when it isn't even dirty. And the class meetings, they'll never be forgotten Decisions, decisions, all of which have a great [?] forbearing on the future . . . What will the class flower be? What will be the motto? Upon completion of all the money-making projects juniors finance the big event of the year — Prom. Along with lots of diligent work and bright decorations, the Junior- Senior Prom is a success. This year is a special one to Juniors of the '74—'75 school year but in reality the duties of juniors remain the same VIBRATIONS. JUNIORS Vibrations 9 Learning is an exciting and stimulating occupation. We feel that the teachers at Alexander High School do their best to enrich the minds of the pupils. This year they are going out of their way to make learning more interesting by changing the class structures in several of the depart- ments to add a variety of knowledge. Two very special courses have been introduced in the schedules this year. Biology III, is one step further in the biological sciences. Field trips are also taken in this class to help make a better understanding of the subjects being studied at the time. Next is Home Furnishings and Gourmet Cooking which includes financing, furnishing, and decorating as well as the affairs of the home. In Gourmet Cooking the preparation of foods from other countries are covered. But the best thing about these classes is the fact that even though they are educational they are lots of fun. . . . VIBRATIONS 10 Vibrations Vibrations 11 Vibrations of school life Students, friends, individuals, trying to make the best of these years. Working, growing, sharing, making things hap- pen. Peer pressure . . . the never ending struggle to be popular and to belong. Being part of a clique, and being frowned upon if you're not a part of the right clique . . . Knowing the importance of being an individual, standing up for what you believe, but still being accepted. Making current fads happen around school . . blue jeans [the more faded the better] flannel shirts, hooded sweaters, and platform shoes [for both sexes] Bringing such profound words into the slang vocabu- lary as waste, turkey, and jack . then giving them new meanings . such as these . . . waste . . . doesn't mean to use without profit. Turkey . . is no longer just the meat that is eaten at Thanksgiving. Jack . . . isn't just a boy's name. Cool . . doesn't refer to the temper- ature. Neat . . isn't something that is tidy. Rip-off . . isn't what just happened to the button on someone's shirt, and OF SCHOOL LIFE BIowpops . . What's a blowpop? Don't know . . Sounds awful . . . Must be pretty good, the juniors sure are selling a lot of them . . . Bright nail polish and lots of rings . . Playing Euchre' every spare moment. Of course there's that old reliable faction of school life that's last and least with most of us . . . Studying. Other important problems deserve first and foremost attention. What will I wear Friday night? How can I get past Mr. Henderson in lunch line? How can I skip class without getting caught? Laughter, tears, smiles, mixed emotions forever changing, vivacious, liv- ing . . . VIBRATIONS Vibrations 13 Vibrations of sports . What's it all about? . . . Not just practicing but . . . forming new skills, improving old ones, working toward a common goal . . bettering the team. Arousing school spirit through Pep Assem- blies until there is much anticipation of the big game. Jubilance of victory . . . Our Team is 1. Disappointment of defeat ... As far as we're concerned, our team is still 1 These moods . . . shared ... by team and students alike . . . VIBRATIONS VIBRATIONS OF ORGANIZATIONS The students who are involved in inner scholastic organizations find that these clubs are a pleasant way to further their education in fields of interest. The fellowships, of course, are mainly for activities which are amusing, but the plans for each meeting generally contain something beneficial. From the initiation to the farewell of the seniors everyone involved has an excellent time, including the teach- ers who are willing to give their time for those who are inquisitive. Look at those muscles! My poor boy Freddie, he's been ruined! The Story: Hildegarde is desperately trying to attract the attention of some eligi- ble senior, for she has no date for the big school dance. She wins the school debate with an impassioned plea against drinking but instead of dazzling some handsome senior with her brilliance, she merely convinces everyone her father must be a drunkard. As Hildegard turns to her mother for help, the phone starts ringing with women friends offering sympathy. Mother knows a nice boy, and arranges a date. Poor Hildegarde! Her mother has picked the one boy in school who wears knickers! Hildegarde pleads to break the date, but father is still mad. Because of Hildegarde's de- bate his job at the bank is threatened; and, short pants or not, Freddie is the only son of his boss. In desperation, Hildegarde buys some “Beauty Mud. Maybe it will make her so stunning she'll cause a stag-line stampede. Meanwhile, Father, worried about his job, invites his boss home to prove what a sane and sensible family they are. But Hildegarde, her face smeared with beauty clay and frightened by a fish in the bathtub, dashes screaming into the room. Then the banker's son bursts in wearing some long pants he's “borrowed. Unfortunately, he's followed by her brother who cries, “Steal my pants, will you! He tackles father's boss by mistake! It looks like the end of everything, but in a whirlwind finish that will delight your audi- ence, a happy solution is reached to all of these humorous difficulties. CAST Hildegarde..... This year 50's day is quite a success with the Cats showing up in T-shirts, tight jeans, greased hair [ Elvis style] and far-out shades. The Chicks show up decked but just as cool as the boys with saddles, bobby socks, rolled-up jeans, pony tails, curls and ribbons. 100 School Life You know Chris, that outfit is very becoming. Are you really serious? Hey, what's in that cup? Hang in there, the song is almost over. SADIE HAWKINS DANCE...A SUCCESS Oh no, what will Dan think? By removing tables and chairs, then replacing them with bales of hay, pumpkins, and Indian corn, the atmosphere of the cafeteria is transformed into that of a hillbilly get together, the perfect setting for the Sadie Hawkins Dance. This dance, sponsored by the Beta Club, comes complete with a Justice of the Peace . Couples go in single and come out hitched with wedding bands of leather. Rolled up jeans, pigtails, bib overalls, and gunny sack dresses are only a few of the many sights seen at this girls-ask-the-boys affair. Although this is a first-of-its-kind event at Alex, who knows, maybe it will become a tradition. organizations 101 The band starts off the year with a five day band camp in August and by meeting our new band director, Mr. Stamguts and his assistant, Miss McCauley. The first performance for the Spartan band is a concert at the Albany fair followed by a parade on Sunday. After that the band is kept busy performing half-time shows every Friday for ten weeks plus pre-game shows for all the home games. The Concert band is formed immediately after football season and the Christmas Concert is given in December. At this concert the Albany Lion's Club donates money for the drum section. In January and February the members sell magazines to raise money for instruments and uniforms. April brings our Spring Concert and in May the Band Banquet is held. Awards are presented and Betsy Mullins receives the John Phillip Sousa Award. We finish the school year by playing for the Senior Baccalaureate and marching in the New Marshfield Memorial Day Parade. Cosh, this is strenuous work. Mr. Stamguts directing at the Concert. STYLE SHOW 75 Don't worry, Leah, the evening will be over soon. I wonder why all those people are staring at me! Well, how do ya like itf Amidst a scattering of multi-colored balloons and other decorations befitting the theme, “Hickory Dickory Dock , the annual style show becomes a reality. As the clock hands move to show the passing of another hour the two mice Hickory and Dickory are on hand to help the younger of the models show off their new apparel. Many new outfits for both leisure and dress up are modeled throughout the course of the evening, demonstrat- ing the outcome of the combined efforts of Mrs. Willock, the advisor and her students. School Life 103 PROM75...TRULY A FANTASY UNDER THE SEA Of course she'll dance with you Roger. Hey Charlie, you mind telling us what you're thinking about? 104 School Life ■ What do you mean, can you have this dance? Imagine mounting a stairway and finding at the top a ballroom fashioned in the manner of the sea. This could very well be a descrip- tion of the 1975 Junior-Senior Prom chambers. The decorations, from the huge octopus with waving appen- dages to the colorful sea weed dangling from the walls, are, of course enriched by the spirit of the hour but have evolved from months of planning and preparation. For the guys and girls alike this is an important event. The females wrap themselves in gowns picked weeks ahead while the males don suits and ties selected especially for the night. When the boutonnieres and corsages have been securely fas- tened, the dances danced, the food eaten, the court announced, and the last song played, pandemonium breaks loose to see who acquires the most worthwhile momentoes. Pep club members can be viewed every- where, during school hours, scurrying to complete the decorations. As they work, portraits of football players emerge on the library windows and aspiring engineers lower the entire cafeteria ceiling with crepe paper trim. HOMECOMING EVENING the pre- game activities are always enhanced by the selection of a Queen and the honoring of her court. The contest is followed by a mad dash to change clothes. Then the post-game excite- ment begins. We would also like to thank Terry fiarnhill, who had to have miles and miles of patience to cope with all of our never ending requests for pic- tures. Many people don't realize how much time and effort it takes 'to produce a yearbook. Often we hear complaints from those not on the staff about how we do things. Well, we do our best, and if you feel you can do better why not do a little' more than just talk. Join the staff ancl we'll put you to work! Once again, thanks to all those who made the yearbook possible and we hope you enjoy it. THANKS, 'forwJlA SJfu YjjU - Editors We, the editors, would like to thank all the people who made it possible for this book to be published- We want to thank those who placed ads in the yearbook. Without them it would be impossible to have an annual, because this is where most of the money comes from. A special thanks goes out to our advisors, Sally Ball and Gladys Blic- kle. We could never have done it all without their assistance. And of course we have to give recognition to our yearbook company, Shaw-Barton and representative, George Lindsey. As you probably know, the book would lack much of its present quality without their assistance. c utocjr ipkA Autographs 2 212 Autographs Autographs 213 214 Autographs Autographs 215 216 Autographs • 1 , • - v • - ■ ■ . .' ✓ •• ■ 1 - r ,•■ T - x !? 1. ■ '. v.f J - • • • y5V‘ w «-1 r'.-W m: .v -• r.% -X .-• -I-; ..-%• . ov ..vs -■ ' •; - • . .
