THESUPERI TE DE T PEAK The only reason that the people of the Fontana community have constructed schools and have hired teachers and other employees is to insure that you receive a proper education, based on your ability and your energy output. Whether you want to admit it or not, you are a very im- portant individual to us. Without you, the schools could not function at all. The three main ingredients in any school system are the pupil, the teacher, and the relationship they establish--which we call learning. I guess what I really mean to say is that under our democratic system you have a right to be here and you have a right to receive an education that is meaningful and relevent to today's world. You also have a duty, and that is to become an educated individual so that you, in your own unique way, can contrib- ute to the betterment of yourself and the society that you rep- resent. The student body admires and respects her for all the extra effort she puts forth as student body advisor. She is an excellent teacher, and really puts herself into everything she does. She expects everyone to do his best, but is understanding when our best is far from perfection. The students hope her six years here have been good and she will have many more.

Emerson expressed some thoughts in the area of giving, probably more aptly than any other person has been able to do. He once said: Rings and jewels are not gifts, but apologies for gifts. The only true gift is a portion of thyself. The gifts of THINGS are never as precious as the gifts of THOUGHT. We give of ourselves when we give gifts of the heart, love, kindness, joy, understanding, sympathy, tolerance, forgiveness ---. We give of ourselves when we give gifts of the mind, ideas, dreams, purposes, ideals, principles, plans, inventions, projects, poetry ---. We give of ourselves when we give of the spirit: prayer, vision, beauty, aspiration, peace, faith ---. K ' We give of ourselves when we give the gift of timeg when we are minute builders of more abundant living for others. We give of ourselves when we give the gift of words: encourage- ment, inspiration, guidance ---.
