- Every Rose Has Its Thorn Prom 9

Page 12 text:

Every Rose Has Its Thorn was the theme selected by the Junior Class for the 1989 Junior-Senior Banquet and prom. This theme was based on a song by the same name made famous by the musical group called Poison. This event was held at the Alcester Steak House this year. The party room there was beauti- fully decorated in red and black with large hearts with roses inside of them as accents. 8 Entertainment at the banquet was very diverse in nature. Jeff Smith served as MC, The Sophomores who were waiters and wai- tresses put on a skit entitled Ten Year Reunion , Shelley Feekes and Tiffany Boyer read the class history. Shelley Feekes sang a song. The prom featured music by the KG 95 Hit Men. A special new feature this year was professional photos of all guests and their dates by Landau Photography. The after-prom party, put on by the Junior Class Parents, was also something new. Everyone was taken to Sioux Falls to the New Towne Theater to see the movie Lean On Me. Before returning home, everyone was treated to breakfast at the Fryin' Pan. There were also many door prizes given away.

Rather than doing a single 3-act all-school play this year, it was decided to do three, separate, one-act plays. Mrs. Wensing was the director of this project. The first play was entitled Dream Walk , and dealt with how two teenagers were supporting one another in dealing with cancer, and with their difficul- ties in getting their families to talk about it. The lead roles were played by Nikki Larsen and Jeremy Solberg. The second play was entitled Five for Bad Luck . 10 It dealt with the irony of first impressions and the prob- lems of interpersonal relations. The lead roles were played by Craig Treiber and Kandy Kratochvil. The third play was entitled The Cop and the An- them . This play was a satirical comedy making fun of man's efforts to control his life and his destiny. Matt Newberg and Aaron Johnson portrayed the leading characters in this particular play.
