The 1989 Sweetheart Coronation was held on March 14,1989. The five candidates were: Tri- cia Treiber, Jolene Osterkamp, Connie Kroger, Kristin Limoges, and Lisa Thompson. That night, af- ter the lights came on to reveal the stage beauti- fully decorated with the theme, Lost in Your Eyes , the candidates were escorted in and took their places on the stage. Jeremy Solberg an- nounced the winner, Connie Kroger, as Sweet- heart Queen. Jon-Paul St. Pierre crowned the new queen, and Rita Thompson presented her with candy from the Student Council. The night's entertainment was provided by 6 A.H.S.'s own rendition of 20 20. Matt Newberg and Annette Schoellerman co-anchored the program. Regular features of the show were the news, the restaurant reviews, and the roving re- porter. Included in the show was singing by Shelly Feekes and Cathy Peck, and a song by Angie Brown. Featured were live interviews with Governor George Mickelson , an Iranian sky- jacker, John Tower, and a prominent sports figure. A special segment on the new video Exercising Your Legs Off was also included. Your Local Dodge Dealer and Doritos co-sponsored this special episode of 20 20. Every Rose Has Its Thorn was the theme selected by the Junior Class for the 1989 Junior-Senior Banquet and prom. This theme was based on a song by the same name made famous by the musical group called Poison. This event was held at the Alcester Steak House this year. The party room there was beauti- fully decorated in red and black with large hearts with roses inside of them as accents. 8 Entertainment at the banquet was very diverse in nature. Jeff Smith served as MC, The Sophomores who were waiters and wai- tresses put on a skit entitled Ten Year Reunion , Shelley Feekes and Tiffany Boyer read the class history. Shelley Feekes sang a song. The prom featured music by the KG 95 Hit Men. A special new feature this year was professional photos of all guests and their dates by Landau Photography. The after-prom party, put on by the Junior Class Parents, was also something new. Everyone was taken to Sioux Falls to the New Towne Theater to see the movie Lean On Me. Before returning home, everyone was treated to breakfast at the Fryin' Pan. There were also many door prizes given away.
