The 1989 Sweetheart Coronation was held on March 14,1989. The five candidates were: Tri- cia Treiber, Jolene Osterkamp, Connie Kroger, Kristin Limoges, and Lisa Thompson. That night, af- ter the lights came on to reveal the stage beauti- fully decorated with the theme, Lost in Your Eyes , the candidates were escorted in and took their places on the stage. Jeremy Solberg an- nounced the winner, Connie Kroger, as Sweet- heart Queen. Jon-Paul St. Pierre crowned the new queen, and Rita Thompson presented her with candy from the Student Council. The night's entertainment was provided by 6 A.H.S.'s own rendition of 20 20. Matt Newberg and Annette Schoellerman co-anchored the program. Regular features of the show were the news, the restaurant reviews, and the roving re- porter. Included in the show was singing by Shelly Feekes and Cathy Peck, and a song by Angie Brown. Featured were live interviews with Governor George Mickelson , an Iranian sky- jacker, John Tower, and a prominent sports figure. A special segment on the new video Exercising Your Legs Off was also included. Your Local Dodge Dealer and Doritos co-sponsored this special episode of 20 20. Following the coronation, the dance was held in the gym. Music was provided for the event by the Sioux Falls Hitmen.
