Manic Mon- day started the week and was followed by Tuesday's Support a Lady Cub Day. Everyone wore buttons to show his her support. Hat Day followed on Wednes- day, Next came Tropical Thursday followed by the traditional Blue and Gold Day on Friday. The Girls Basketball Team was defeated on Tues- day night by Wakonda during homecoming week. Thursday night, at the coronation, the curtains parted to reveal the stage beautifully decorated to depict the theme, Love is a Bridge . Master of Ceremonies, Aaron Johnson, announced the candidates and royal- ty. Julie Torkelson and Craig Treiber were crowned as the 1988 Homecoming King and Queen. Skits and songs were provided by the classes and some of the organi- zations to entertain the royalty, their court, and the crowd. Friday was the parade downtown. The Senior float carrying the candidates and royalty led the pa- rade, The cheerleaders and the band came next, fol- lowed by the remainder of the student body. First the parade marched to Morningside Manor where a king and queen were crowned from among the residents of the Manor, by the A.H.S. Homecoming king and queen. From there the parade continued downtown where the traditional pep rally was held. It was a tre- mendous success! The Senior class won the class cheer competition, and the Manor won the window display contest. Prior to the football game, the royalty and the candidates were introduced to the crowd. The band presented the half-time show. The football game was excellent! The 28-6 victory over Parker topped off the festivities. The Homecoming Dance was held at the high school gym after the game. The music was provid- ed by the Kg-95 Hit Men. Homecoming-Love is a 5 The 1989 Sweetheart Coronation was held on March 14,1989. The five candidates were: Tri- cia Treiber, Jolene Osterkamp, Connie Kroger, Kristin Limoges, and Lisa Thompson. That night, af- ter the lights came on to reveal the stage beauti- fully decorated with the theme, Lost in Your Eyes , the candidates were escorted in and took their places on the stage. Jeremy Solberg an- nounced the winner, Connie Kroger, as Sweet- heart Queen. Jon-Paul St. Pierre crowned the new queen, and Rita Thompson presented her with candy from the Student Council. The night's entertainment was provided by 6 A.H.S.'s own rendition of 20 20. Matt Newberg and Annette Schoellerman co-anchored the program. Regular features of the show were the news, the restaurant reviews, and the roving re- porter. Included in the show was singing by Shelly Feekes and Cathy Peck, and a song by Angie Brown. Featured were live interviews with Governor George Mickelson , an Iranian sky- jacker, John Tower, and a prominent sports figure. A special segment on the new video Exercising Your Legs Off was also included. Your Local Dodge Dealer and Doritos co-sponsored this special episode of 20 20. Following the coronation, the dance was held in the gym. Music was provided for the event by the Sioux Falls Hitmen. Sweetheart - Lost in Your Eyes 7 Every Rose Has Its Thorn was the theme selected by the Junior Class for the 1989 Junior-Senior Banquet and prom. This theme was based on a song by the same name made famous by the musical group called Poison. This event was held at the Alcester Steak House this year. The party room there was beauti- fully decorated in red and black with large hearts with roses inside of them as accents. 8 Entertainment at the banquet was very diverse in nature. Jeff Smith served as MC, The Sophomores who were waiters and wai- tresses put on a skit entitled Ten Year Reunion , Shelley Feekes and Tiffany Boyer read the class history. Shelley Feekes sang a song. The prom featured music by the KG 95 Hit Men. A special new feature this year was professional photos of all guests and their dates by Landau Photography. The after-prom party, put on by the Junior Class Parents, was also something new. Everyone was taken to Sioux Falls to the New Towne Theater to see the movie Lean On Me. Before returning home, everyone was treated to breakfast at the Fryin' Pan. There were also many door prizes given away. - Every Rose Has Its Thorn Prom 9 Rather than doing a single 3-act all-school play this year, it was decided to do three, separate, one-act plays. Mrs. Wensing was the director of this project. The first play was entitled Dream Walk , and dealt with how two teenagers were supporting one another in dealing with cancer, and with their difficul- ties in getting their families to talk about it. The lead roles were played by Nikki Larsen and Jeremy Solberg. The second play was entitled Five for Bad Luck . 10 It dealt with the irony of first impressions and the prob- lems of interpersonal relations. The lead roles were played by Craig Treiber and Kandy Kratochvil. The third play was entitled The Cop and the An- them . This play was a satirical comedy making fun of man's efforts to control his life and his destiny. Matt Newberg and Aaron Johnson portrayed the leading characters in this particular play. All School Plays - What a Show r a d u a t i o n with faith in EACH other and the EXPERIENCES WE VE shared. With faith in each other and the experiences we've shared, we advance into our future building from what we have learned. This was the motto writ- ten by the graduating class of 1989, and was the theme for graduation. Thirty-two Seniors walked down the aisle in the Ele- mentary School gym and across to the podium to re- ceive their diplomas. Seven of this number had earned the privilege of wearing gold honor cords. The band provided the Pomp and Circumstance for the pro- cessional. Honor Guards were: Shane Wood, Darcie Webster, Mike Seivert, and Ginger Waddell. Pastor Charles Peterson gave the Invocation. After the audi- ence sang the hymn Take Thou My Hands and Lead Me , Gretchen Gubbrud gave her Salutatory Address entitled Footprints . Matt Newberg and Jolene Oster- kamp sang the song Friends , followed by Jeff Walz giving the Valedictory Address. The Senior Chorus en- tertained the crowd for the last time as a group by sing- ing the song Like An Eagle . Matt Newberg did some nostalgic reminiscing with Remember When . Shelley Feekes and Lisa Thompson talked about What Lies Ahead? . The Teacher of the Year award was given to Mrs. Pam Wensing. Mr. Joachim presented the grad- uating class to School Board President Jerry Kratochvil, who presented the graduating Seniors with their diplo- mas. Before the band played the recessional. Pastor Peterson gave the Benediction. 12 1989 was an election year and everyone at AHS was in- volved. Students did more than just argue about candidates, they participated. The pep band was invited to play in the Demo- cratic Dukakis Bentsen rally held in Sioux Falls. A great time was had by all — even the Republi- cans in the group. The Natural Helpers sponsored a local rally in high school on Election Day. The government classes went to each class and explained the candidates and issues. Then bal- lots were passed out and the en- tire student body voted. The votes were tallied and the results announced at the end of the ral- ly. The votes were fairly accurate in comparison to the real election results. The next President of the USA is G. Bush. 14 Tiffany Mae Boyer Angela Lee Erickson Bicester High School 1988-1989 Senior Class Laramie Wade Anderson Wade Roy Dreeszen Brian James Anderson Angela Joy Brown Raschelle Lynette Feekes David DeLane Fickbohm Gretchen Kay Gubbrud Wade Henry Hartman Michael Stephen Kezar, Jr. Kistsy Michelle Kratochvil Connie Elaine Kroger Kristin Marie Limoges Troy Douglas Long Renee DeAnn Ludwig Douglas James Moller Matthew Alan Newberg Cathy Marie Peck Christopher Allen Powell Jolene Carol Osterkamp Annette Marie Schoellerman Lynette Sheri Schoellerman Mary Mildred Scott Darwin Lance Sogn Rebecca Elizabeth Solberg Jon-Paul St. Pierre Lisa Louise Thompson Tricia Jane Treiber Jeffrey Alan Walz Lee Carl Westphal 17 Ahlers, Alyson Carlson, Shannon Farley, Sheryl Hamilton, Mark Hansohm, Kenny Harris, Valerie Johnson, Aaron Joseph, Cheriiyn Lundberg, Tricia Lutteman, Matthew Olson, Sheila Peterson, Stacy Ronning, Lesley Ronnmg, Regan Seivert, Michael Smith, Jeff Steeneck, Wade Stuart, Lisa Van Wyk, Genelle Ver Muim, Carla Waddell, Ginger Webster, Darcie Wiberg, Amy Wood, Shane The junior class managed to keep ahead of things all year long.
